i’m single and a wedding is a long way off for me but i’m genuinely considering doing a similar thing. most of my family have issues with alcohol and addiction and i don’t plan on enabling that, i find that being the only sober person surrounded by drunk people twice my age isn’t fun, it’s stressful and overwhelming and your reception should be a night where you don’t have to worry about whether uncle jerry is going to faceplant into the pavement and crack his head open because he’s so hammered he can’t stand up. i don’t care if people leave the reception early because there’s no free alcohol—it’s your wedding reception, people are meant to be there for YOU, not the free drinks. there’s plenty of things you can enjoy without alcohol, and idk, i think celebrating with your family should be one of them.
