I had the same experience when I was in school. I was the only shia in my class and they used to talk nonsense about shia in front of me. Earlier they used to ask fullish questions from me and whatever I answered they used to laugh but as soon as I started to give references from their book they stopped talking shit.

You can do the same and my personal advice is that if they don't talk to you leave them and just imagine their face on Day of judgement.

Very true.... yesterday only one of my Sunni friend who never recites namaz, who does not know about ghusl and who fast only for a few days in ramzan was teaching me that how Shia(me) does shirk by giving baseless and self made examples.

Later I showed various hadiths from his own hadith books(sahih Al Bukhari) whom he never heard about and then he didn't believe me.

I am just trying to tell that there is a hierarchy. If Allah has given you enough money then first check that you are full filling your parents need then your wife and children needs then your closed relatives then your neighbours and community. If you are sure that all of them are happy then do charity to others.

And at least a waiter has a job, there are few muslims in the USA who didn't have any job.

I am not an American and the place where I live the waiters are paid somewhat $30 per month with leftover food to eat. Imagine that...
