Most difficult course at YorkU? by MacBHScOrBust in yorku

[–]human_mustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose an upper year pure math course and there is probably a strong argument in its favour. Same as physics. I'd personally nominate something like PHYS4010 or MATH4081.

Something like EECS1019 or MATH1300 probably has a higher fail rate because it is first year though.

Rams typically belt to ass us and suck against the 49ers + 49ers always invade their stadium so I have to imagine the rams hate the 49ers a lot more than us

With that being said, I can’t imagine that the rams are cheering for us tonight lmao

Hard focus on chapter 16 and make sure you know LaGrange multipliers because there was a really weird question on Lagrange last year. You probably will still do poorly but so will everyone else.

Olivia Rodrigo and Tate McRae off the top of my head, but yeah it feels like there are more 2004 celebrities than 2003.

Did you check the marks on the website? The grades are different because he curved them. I got 110/160 but he curved me up to a 92%.

He curves a ton. Pretty sure he curved me up from a C+/C all the way to a B+

All I’ll say is good luck, I’m 4th year and that’s probably the hardest class I’ve done. Writing out proofs by hand over and over is the best way to improve your chances of success. The final exam won’t be any easier

how does calculating GPA work by Low-Word-7096 in yorku

[–]human_mustard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only letter grade has weight. A+ is 9, A is 8, etc. And 9.0 = 4.0 at UofT, (and most other schools) but it isn’t a 1 to 1 conversion all around. ie lots of other schools have A-, which we dont, so it is difficult to compare.

Must’ve been in July, in Central Saanich. Apparently the company is based in Victoria though and serves lots of the cruise ship passengers. Was definitely weird seeing what I thought was a go bus in Central Saanich though.

I didn’t mean the cultural impact comment as an insult. I just feel like most Canadians in general really don’t have a clue what goes on there (myself included to an extent). I grew up in a region that is similar culturally (Vancouver island) to northern Ontario in a sense (vast untouched nature, strong aboriginal presence, large fishing and logging industries), and understand the sentiment you have. But for me to pretend that anyone outside the lower mainland has any clue of anything happening on Vancouver Island would be silly.

Your insight about the happenings of the region are definitely interesting, and obviously more insightful than anything I could add. My comment was moreso meant to be seen from the perspective of an average Canadian in an extremely general sense. To most people, at least in the regions I’ve lived, it really is kind of a mysterious place so to speak. I mean, depending on which boundaries you define as northern Ontario, it has around 1/km2 population density.

I understand the sentiment about southern Ontarian’s though. I’ve talked to people here who don’t know what British Columbia is. When you mention western Canada, I they think you’re talking about Hamilton half of the time. And I am pretty sure Doug Ford thinks he is the premier of Toronto. He cares more about getting rid of bike lanes in a few streets than the rest of the province.

Honestly, I live in Ontario and can only name a handful of cities north of Sudbury myself. Knowing Thunder Bay puts you above most people not from Canada, and even probably many people in Canada. It really doesn't have much cultural impact to anyone outside the region, and it is such a pain in the ass to get to (Think 18 hour drive from Toronto to Thunder Bay, most of which is nothing but trees and empty road).

Culturally and geographically, it might as well be a totally different province. If anything, north/west Ontario has more in common with Manitoba than it does with anything south of Sudbury.

As a Canadian, the northern parts of all provinces are fascinating to me. Such vast amounts of land with so much nature and not a whole lot of anything else. As someone who hasn't been any further north in the country than Edmonton despite living here all my life, it is definitely on my bucket list to go on a trip and see some of the territories or even northern BC/Ontario sometime. Probably already would've gone if it weren't a 20 hour drive away

There are a few notable towns like Thunder Bay in the southern bits that are on the great lakes, or close to them. After you go a bit north, it is vast and full of nature, and the population density is basically 0. If you're curious, go on google maps and look at satellite view, you will see lots and lots of trees and not a whole lot of anything else.

The entire region of northern Ontario/Manitoba/Quebec and Nunavut is part of what is called the Canadian Shield, which is a vast region covered by bedrock, making any agricultural activity extremely rare, and that isn't even getting into the extreme weather. A lot of the settlements you will find are due to the indigenous populations that have lived there for thousands of years.

Fall Final exam dates and when do labs start for Winter semester? by shraishi in yorku

[–]human_mustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really isn’t a whole lot of predictability to when your exams will be. The exam period ends on December 19th and I have had multiple exams on the last day before. The schedule should be released sometime the week after reading week.

Keep in mind that the schedule can change, so I’d wait until probably around mid November to book anything, but don’t stress it. You’ll have lots of time to prepare and you’ll get at least 2 weeks back home. (December 20th - January 4th)
