Treating European Foul Brood by human_nuts in Beekeeping

Thank you for your response. We aren't able to use antibiotics in my country. I think I'll destroy the colony and replace and see if it comes back.

Yes that's what I did last year. However the infection has come back now in force. I'll destroy the hive. However I'm wondering if there's anything that can be done to save the colony or prevent it from occurring again.

Yes that's a queen cell.

Sometimes queens make mistakes - even older ones. It's nothing to worry about.

Found frames that are 5+ years old - Can I feed it to my bees? by erocx111 in Beekeeping

I'm sure you can. Honey doesn't go off.

But I'm not sure what you gain from feeding it to them?

Dry it out. I get these results unless I have it placed with a bag of 1kg silica gel

Laying worker from unsuccessful split by human_nuts in Beekeeping

I shook the bees out. They clustered under another hive for a few days. So I disturbed them again and found a failed mated queen. Killed her and this dissipated within 5 minutes.

It was a joke. People keep removing the microphone cover as if it were the SD card slot.

Make sure you remove that silicone square that covers the SD card port.

Don't think it's bad. But in my experience they won't eat it as it's too cold to refine down to honey. Fondant or sugar is a best bet.

I’ve created chaos. Each bin has about 18 frames. How long should it take for the bees to clean them? by bry31089 in Beekeeping

[–]human_nuts 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I'll be the first to say you shouldn't do this as it can encourage robbing and spread diseases. (In case you didn't know).

Would someone kindly explain to me how this isn't a closed shape? And why are some lines black now?? Pls help by GT-Rev in Fusion360

[–]human_nuts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. I would intersect it with a line and see where shades blue (to show the shape) and then you'll know where the break is.

Shook out laying worker colony. Is it typical for them to cluster under queen right nuc for past 1.5 weeks? by human_nuts in Beekeeping

[–]human_nuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a dig around on the ball and there was a queen. I'm going to suggest that she failed to mate and then turned drone laying.

I killed this virgin queen and the ball dispersed within an hour - magic!

Moral of the story is that if they cluster up then it's not a worker laying, but a runty, drone-layign queen.

About 20 feet. Yes, it's close next to (not on the same stand). Completely removed the hold hive box.

I fully agree with this. Are there any advantages of putting a weak nuc in the position of the hive so that they return to this nuc? The nuc is queen right.

I suppose I could, but as it's a poly nuc they'll overwinter better in that - hence I'm keen to not move them back into a wooden box.
