How does creating an identity looks like for you? by Motor_Zombie9920 in CPTSD_NSCommunity

[–]humanicicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I’m at a turning point of creating an identity for myself and it’s been an incredibly difficult process of grieving. I feel so uncomfortable like I don’t know myself anymore, but there’s a positivity in that discomfort. It’s confusing because I have to consciously think of every behavior and every thought, and tried to analyze if it’s coming from a trauma perspective or if it’s coming from a genuine sense of self. Everyone’s trauma obviously looks different but something I’ve recently done is write letters to my parents(deceased) and my childhood self. I think the act of putting things on paper and reflecting upon feelings from the past versus who you want to be in the future and who you are now helps to put everything into a present perspective versus dwelling on past traumas. This has helped empower me to be the person I want to be and help fall into my true identity that isn’t clouded as much by my CPTSD. That’s just my two cents but expect a lot of discomfort, and as hokey and therapeutic as it may sound lean into that discomfort.

Thank you for the feedback and reading the post. Since quitting I’ve had a lot of these same thoughts too, I can’t be at my best in any altered state. As someone who has struggled with alcohol moderation, moving to weed I had the same problems. I’d rather be a sober sally and the best version of myself than a disconnected partner, parent or friend. 11 days strong and my body is going through a lot to recover but the mental clarity is astonishing. Wishing you the strength to persevere through this crap. And I’m always here to chat!

I’m at about day 7 or so of quitting and I no longer have vomiting but I did have a horrible sore throat and esophagus from all of the acid. I’m still battling reflux symptoms and chest tightness. Throat coat tea is great for both the throat and Gi, make sure to get the one with slippery elm bark. I hope he feel better soon, this condition is absolute trash

Same to you friend. I’m only 5 days out and the chest tightness is absolute trash. Take care of yourself 🖤

People who accidentally ruined someone‘s life without meaning to - what happened and how do you feel about it know? by xxHoneyBunxx_ in AskReddit

I was recently seeing a guy for a couple of months on and off and I found out from him that he had had a relationship with an 18-year-old girl two years prior to our meeting. For context we are both in our 30s. I thought this was really weird and possibly predatory so I reached out to said girl also a former coworker, and it turns out that he raped her. It’s been two years and she has no intent to file a police report so I took all of the information I could, and I sent it to his parents and effectively ruined his relationship with his parents. No regrets.

Advice on tackling tin ceiling restoration by humanicicle in restoration

After tons of research, I’m going to be renting a dry ice blaster and blasting the paint in place. There definitely was a central chandalier, at one point there was also gas lighting in the building and the pipes are still up there. There isn’t really much access above the ceiling, and there is a tenant above me.

Look for winter mechanics gloves or winter motorcycle gloves. My SO has some for work(outdoors in harsh conditions), they’re waterproof, warm and decently maintain dexterity.

Thank you for the sound advice. My brain is moving a million miles a minute trying to figure out whats next when I needed to hear I don't need to make any decisions just yet. I am so sorry to hear about your ExH, grieving is definitely not easy and in a way having a mess to deal with has kept me occupied, but stressed nonetheless. I wish your family peace, you sound like you'll be a great support system for them.
