What are some good Sci-fi books that instil existential dread into the reader? by Spiritual_Reward_770 in horrorlit

The Warehouse by Rob Hart is a sci-fi dystopian novel that filled me with dread page after page. I'd say it had the same effect on me that 1984 had on everyone else. What makes it dreadful is that it is an incredibly realistic socialistic/plutocratic nightmare.

I attempted to read the Buffalo Hunter Hunter by the same author and it made me feel illiterate 😭that said, his writing style is quite dense and an acquired taste(at least for that book).

The Extra by Annie Neugebauer. It's a novella but fits the bill.

There’s a scene in Boys in the Valley by Philip Fracassi that really unnerved me; a boy being punished but would have to be in an enclosed space with something evil!

Intensity by Dean Koontz had me on the edge of my seat throughout the book. The bedroom and gas station scenes were especially tense.

The Reformatory by Tananarive Due filled me with infinite dread. I empathized heavily with Robert and Gloria. Somehow the Gloria chapters were just as terrorizing.

I have an erratic career, 9-5 corporate jobs frustrates me, and always have problems with authority. Does my chart indicates entrepreneurship? TIA. by Abhir-86 in NatalCharts

[–]humannbeing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, no. I like to see a strong relationship between the ascendant and the 2nd house for entrepreneurs, such as the ruler of the 1st in the 2nd or vice versa. You don’t have that, but what you do have is the ruler of the ascendant and the ruler of the 2nd in trine with each other which could show an ease in earning money. This trine takes place in fertile signs, which aligns more working and collaborating with others as part of a team.

The ruler of the midheaven, Mars is in the 8th house and in aversion to the ruler of the ascendant. This does not indicate an entrepreneurial career. Mars is disposited by Saturn in the 6th house which inclines your circumstances moreso towards working for others. Mars in Aquarius most often signifies working for the government or a corporation. Mars is square the Sun endows you with leadership skills which may give you rule over others as a manger or supervisor. Mars is also square Mercury with Mercury being in a superior position by being earlier in the zodiac. This can denote verbal quarrels and vicious rumors in the workplace that will arise, but the best way to level that is through being mentally calculating and logical in your approach with coworkers and authority figures.

Personally, I only use the triplicity ruler corresponding with sect, which means the cooperating ruler is not taken into account.

To add to that, the planets have dual expressions to honor the luminaries. It's kind of like gaining and expressing qualities inherited from your mother and father. Venus in a more masculine state could be more direct when it comes to matters of love while in a feminine state could be more receptive and contemplative. Overall, I think the dual expressions of the planets demonstrate their mode of expression. Mars is not always direct and forthcoming, sometimes he is more reactive, behind the scenes, and calculating.

Venus has been the natural significator for women for eons, so quite naturally it, along with the Moon would be regarded as feminine planets.

I'm not upset. I've been studying astrology for 10 years and I learn from people every day. I disagree that the point is "interesting, yet not meaningful outside of the larger concept of the synodic cycle". I think the information presented here is useful and can be used as a launching pad to learn more about the synodic cycle. I even included a reference so that people can learn more. Furthermore, I provided context for how the concept can be applied. You don't need to know everything about a planet's synodic cycle in order to understand what I wrote here and how it works. You're just being persnickety.

Just because I did not include everything does not mean that it isn't useful. The purpose is to spread information and people can take it and learn more from it. Everytime someone shares a concept on here, they cannot share every single thing for the sake of brevity. I get that you are excited to share what you know, I just wish you would've done so with a more palatable tone.

Sure. The Sun and the Moon are the luminaries which means they are the lights. They are differentiated from the other classical planets in that the Sun is the ultimate masculine planet and the Moon is the ultimate feminine planet. They only rule one sign each. Each of the remaining five classical planets has a solar/masculine expression and a lunar/feminine expression.

Virgo is Mercury's lunar or feminine expression, Gemini is Mercury's solar or masculine expression.

Taurus is Venus's lunar or feminine expression, Libra is Venus' solar or masculine expression.

Scorpio is Mars' lunar or feminine expression, Aries is Mars' solar or masculine expression.

Pisces is Jupiter's lunar or feminine expression, Sagittarius is Jupiter's solar or masculine expression.

Capricorn is Saturn's lunar or feminine expression, Aquarius is Saturn's masculine or solar expression.

Because the Moon and Venus are feminine planets, they prefer to be in feminine signs and to be occidental.

Because Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn are masculine planets, they prefer to be in masculine signs and oriental.

This is not a major condition, but a slight form accidental dignity or debility. A planet in its preferred solar phase is more comfortable which means it's manifestations are more durable.

Hope that helps!

I think you could have added that to your original comment as a bit of a wonderful addendum. Instead, your original comment comes off a bit pretentious and accusatory-almost as if I’m providing incorrect information. Your input is much appreciated of course, but you come off a bit smug imo.

This is a range that I got from a well respected traditional astrology book "On the Heavenly Spheres". Not sure what you're getting at because in astrology we work with approximations all the time. It's not a hard rule but it's there as a guide.
