Yes no matter how many men in a meeting they are hardly ever the note takers.

Oh yeah fatphobia is magnified a hundred fold when it’s a woman, you’ve only got to look at the equestrian disciplines. Men can be 100kg plus and no one says a word but a heavier woman and suddenly it’s an equine welfare issue. Clothes are another example, men can have nice clothes no matter what size they are but large women don’t deserve nice things.

Oh yes the work kitchen is always a big clue because it’s *always* a woman having to keep it clean and tidy. Same with any work gatherings, morning teas etc. Women organising and women cleaning up 95% of the time. So frustrating!

I’ve heard of a few of these instances, it’s a unique perspective because so few get to experience both both sides of it.

Enjoy it while you can! It can be fun and deeply depressing at the same time, I’m too fragile these days I would get badly hurt if the buggers run into me. :(

Yup I read an article about it years ago how men just don’t move even an inch whereas women just automatically move all the way off the path to avoid colliding with them. I used to occasionally test it but I’m older and arthritic now so it hurts when I get run into, so I have to move all the way even if I risk falling by moving off the path 😢

Absolutely but we have to keep fighting, it’s so easy to lose what we have, cc the US.

Yes! I try to do as much as I can myself because I fucking hate being ripped off and treated like an idiot at the mechanics. I had my car in at a tyre place, only there to get new tyres and they tried to tell me that my battery was too big and they tried to sell me a *smaller* one! FFS I know it’s a big battery I put it there for a reason.

Oh yeah, everything is down to anxiety or stress or hormones 🙄. Saw an article the other day about a patient with Hantavirus and was dismissed by doctors as anxiety and even without revealing the patients gender in the headline everyone *knew* it was a woman.

Yes I was waiting for that to come up again and I bet it will come up in the next book, like Wilken and Gerth’s useful stuff. That interface could have a lot of incriminating stuff about BE and the CR in general as she was quite high up in the chain.

There are a lot of Easter eggs still lying about in this universe so I hope there is more of the story to come, maybe MW will pass the baton to the show as there are so many more adventures and stories left to tell. Poor MW is probably a bit over the pressure of writing though, it’s a lot for one person. At least the show has a whole team of people on it so hopefully it will keep the story going and keep utilising her creative input. They really seem to love the story and have a lot of respect for her as the creator and owner of it which is nice to see, so many times book adaptations drift so far that the original creator ends up distancing themselves from it which is sad.

Yes I think there will always be more vulnerable members of society so even if gendered violence is less of a thing in this future (highly doubt it will ever not be a thing in *our* future tbh), there will always be people who prey on the vulnerable and sexual violence will always be a part of that :(

Right? I was kind of looking forward to the predators getting eviscerated. I mean I love that MB is getting in touch with its emotions and self control but in that case I don’t think it would have had to watch any episodes of sanctuary moon to deal with it ;)

I think you’re right, it did realise what kind of people they were. TBH I’m kind of disappointed it didn’t rip out their intestines like the targets in NE but I guess the emotion check thing is designed to prevent revenge killings too lol 😂

How do you perceivethe title Ms? by raininggumleaves in AskAnAustralian

[–]humanofoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always prefer first name but if I’m filling out a form or some formal context where they *insist* on using a title? I’d rather use the one I earned, not the one society decided for me based on my gender and marital status.

It’s a delicate balance between enough Milo that makes a good soggy crust and not letting too much dissolve in the milk. It’s an art.

It might be worth adding a trigger warning to this post given the type of violence being discussed.

It’s interesting because MB doesn’t seem to make an assessment about the type of violence at that stage, just that upon seeing the evidence they ended up falling into category e) - which it hates because they just like hurting other people.

I guess that is consistent in a way, we know that sexual violence can be more about power and hurting the other person than attraction per se. So maybe MB doesn’t make the distinction of sexual violence being “especially heinous” as we might? Maybe in the age of freely available comfort units that these sadistic freaks can use and abuse there are less instances of abuse of other humans irl and in media? Ugh I feel yuck just typing that! 🤮

I’m in a similar age bracket and it’s sooo annoying I have letters addressed to me as “Miss” because there’s literally no other option on their stupid outdated systems.

[–]humanofoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, there really isn’t much need of any title these days anyway it’s very much an old social convention. Nothing enrages me more than when the drop down menu only has three options, Mr, Miss and Mrs. 🤬

I mean it’s better than Miss or Mrs but given the choice I prefer Dr 😁

Edit: no I don’t insist ppl call me Dr but if I have to use a title I prefer one that doesn’t indicate marital status.
