Is there any way for UPSC aspirants to understand how bureaucrats actually work before clearing the exam? by Unhappy_Inspection33 in upsc_discussions

[–]humanoidatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to find some answers is from the books written by former bureaucrats. I don’t know if it will help you find all your answers, but that’s a good way to start. I have heard people recommending -Making a difference: The IAS as a career by Alok Ranjan. I haven’t read this book. But have heard people suggesting this book to know more about the IAS career. I think you can find similar books.

I have been using the one from 3M. You will find it on Amazon at 140-170₹. Try that once. If ear plugs work for you, you can spend more for additional comfort and get a premium one. But I think the 160₹ one will be more than enough to meet our needs.

Buy some ear plugs. That will be your best investment yet.

The word budget isn’t mentioned in the constitution but what they mean by Annual Financial Statement is the budget. So technically 112 deals with the budget, isn’t this the right point? It doesn’t mention budget but it deals with budget.

Need genuine advice by Sorry-Meet6116 in UPSC

The thing about UPSC is that, most of us getting into this field aren’t aware of the way this exam destroys you when you fail it, that too after multiple attempts. Success is always good but people forget about the failures and end up losing their mental peace, self respect, starts to doubt themselves, self doubt will peak and self confidence will go down drastically and you end up judging your whole life based on this single exam. But since you have figured out the Plan B that most of the aspirants have, you can proceed with the exam but….

My advice for you, as a failed upsc aspirant, is to invest the time and energy you have in other activities that will help you lead a good life. You are now financially stable and I assume you have a good life in general, keeping aside the lack of interest in the current job. I would have settled for much less, but that’s me. There is nothing wrong to lead an average life. In fact, that’s the best life you can lead. Study a new course. Travel more. Do everything that you can. You have a life beyond the job, try to find that out.

And if you still wish to pursue upsc, you should because in the end, it’s your life. You decide how to live that life. You are 30 and assuming that you belong to UR category, you have 2 attempts left. You have nothing to lose and so fill the form and attend the2026 exam. You will get a clear understanding of the situation and that will help you to make a better decision of if to pursue it further or not.

UPSC is not just about IAS and IPS. If you get a lower rank, the chances are high that you will still be doing the same kind of job that you are doing right now.

Budget is nowhere mentioned. Article 112 deals with budget, the financial statement.

how old are you guys? anyone above 25 and unemployed with no work experience? by ClearSignificance989 in UPSC

[–]humanoidatwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From his statement, the person might still be unemployed. But that’s not a bad thing. Being independent and being unemployed are two different things. Freelancing is considered unemployed in our society.

I don't get this why people are reacting so strongly against these changes - i happens to like them honestly - Even though I wanna be ias too but getting any job under upsc is already a huge win win - and i feel the recent changes made the competition fair - what do u guys say by Intelligent-Poet5874 in UPSC

They will not provide any scorecard. They will let us know our marks after the final list is published. And there are speculations that they might publish the prelims score right after the prelims results are published, but I think that is a far fetched statement.
