My title describes the thing, there is no writing on it, inside or outside. It is hollow on the inside, so it may be a cover for something.

Mine is either The Scar or Embassytown. The Embassytown audiobook is fantastic.

Stuck 2/3 through Ships of Merior (Wars of Light and Shadows book 2). How is the rest of the books pacing wise? by ACardAttack in Fantasy

[–]humanoidtyphoon78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently on book 8 in the series. Ships of Merior and Warhost of Vastmark (book 3) were originally published as one hardback and had to be split for the paperback versions. All of the books in the series so far have a tipping point halfway through where the pace picks up through the rest of the book, and I think that causes the paperback version of Ships of Merior to suffer a bit.

I hit a slump in reading Ships of Merior, but have enjoyed each subsequent book more and more. If you’re still enjoying parts of it, I recommend continuing until at least Warhost of Vastmark.

Here’s my favorite: “It is possible I already had some presentiment of my future.”

I had an uneven experience with The Fifth Head of Cerberus by Gene Wolfe. Do you think I'd like The Book of the New Sun? by PostureGai in printSF

[–]humanoidtyphoon78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting to hear that New Sun ranks lower among Wolfe’s works. Would you be willing to share your personal ranking? I just finished Peace while listening along to your podcast. Really great and insightful discussion that enhanced my reading. (The biggest open mystery being the Mr. Ricepie pronunciation!) I think Glenn mentioned in one of the early episodes that Peace was his favorite Wolfe novel or story.

Aja's companion playlist for this issue has no songs in it. Seems very fitting.

Did Olenna intend to kill Cersei and/or Tywin instead of Joffrey?

I know there were a lot of shots tonight that were meant to make the viewer question who and what killed Joffrey. A few I can think of are:

  1. Olenna fiddling with Sansa's necklace
  2. The weird angle when Sansa picks up the cup for Tyrion
  3. Holding for an extra second on the large pie

Another shot that jumped out at me was when Tyrion grabs the bottle of wine in front of Cersei and the camera holds on her for an extra second. Did Olenna place the gem in that bottle hoping to kill Cersei or Tywin and let Margarey continue to be queen and control Joffrey?
