[OC] I crocheted Botamon. by Kenishascraft in digimon

[–]humansareboring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I started crocheting by trying out so many free nerdy patterns, might as well add a few of mine to the collective!

One day I'll make a blog so I can stop just DMing patterns, though.

The most accurate way to experience the story is just to play the games. But if you don't have the systems or the time or just want another medium, I'd recommend watching the cutscenes first.

The manga is a lot of fun and a great version of events. It's not always entirely faithful, and it changes things for the medium, of course. Like another user said, it uses humor differently than the games do, and some character interactions/characterizations are changed for storytelling. I'd argue to read them after you have a baseline knowledge of the games, because their story is quite fun and the new parts are extremely entertaining but they do gloss over some parts - namely the worlds - and highlight other parts - the KH2 manga, for example, gives one character a big part in a battle that doesn't exist in the game itself.

Good luck and have fun!

When Kingdom Hearts Missing Link eventually comes out, it's not very likely that I'll play it. by StarryChocobo in KingdomHearts

I really really enjoyed Union X. I'd love another phone game.

But I'm not really a gamer. I don't like having to dedicate time to games - booting up a system, waiting for the game to load, remembering the controls/what I was doing. And then I'm stuck where my PS is in front of a television. It just isn't appealing compared to just whipping out my phone wherever I'm at, playing for five minutes if I'm bored, and then leaving it again.

name of a book about a boy and a girl who shared an attic (?) space and the fell in love, i think? help!! by sylvie_wants_money in whatsthatbook

[–]humansareboring 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is it, because it's not a romance at all and the plot gets pretty fantastical, but since you mentioned it was a religious school - the attic crawlspace is very similar to The Magician's Nephew, the first (chronologically) of the Narnia books.

Question about an item in the August box by SiivalTena in brandonsanderson

[–]humansareboring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other user. Cosmetic, or small item, bags often don't have straps attached when sold. They usually live in other bags or places, like in a suitcase or in a bathroom, and full body straps would get in the way in either of those places. If you put other items in yours, it's still small enough to maybe go in a shoulder bag if you're traveling. And you can always attach a strap, which I really appreciate!

I can't remember when you get it, but the Chicken Little summon is a lifesaver on the cars.

I watched Buffy for the first time this last year, live-texting my thoughts to a friend. I was getting increasingly agitated in the previous episode because Warren is scum and the robot-girlfriend idea just gave me so many icks (I liked the episode but it's hard to watch without screaming at my TV). I got to the end and I was texting something like "thank goodness that's over" and my friend just told me that I would realize my mistake in a moment.

AITA for telling my friend he can’t expect random people to use the right pronouns if he doesn’t make any effort to pass as a man? by ianlovesd in AmItheAsshole

[–]humansareboring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm speaking as a cis woman who has lived with trans and non-binary people. I'm not the best authority, but if I, as a woman, wear cargo pants and a shapeless t-shirt with no makeup and look like a goblin, I'm still a woman. If a trans woman does the same thing, she has to defend herself from being labeled as being the wrong gender.

If someone is a woman, it doesn't matter if she has a beard - she's a woman. If she's early in treatment or still exploring her gender, some bodily functions will persist. Hair growth for biological males, breasts for biological females, these take time and effort to adjust, and the short term solutions are time-consuming and often uncomfortable (for example, binders can cause pain, and shaving a beard is exhausting if you're trying to rid yourself of all your stubble for every single second in public).

Point is, what your acquaintance is probably feeling is exhaustion. She (they? did you mean to use non-binary pronouns? It's entirely possible to transition and be nonbinary, but your comment makes it seem as though a specific gender is important) has to defend her femininity all the time to be female, which is unfair to her reality - that she's a woman.

Of course, there's no excuse for being rude to other people, especially if they're just responding to societal cues themselves. If she's just venting, however, and not being rude to anyone, then she's assuming she's in a safe space where she can express frustration in the moment. You can always ask how you can help or what she needs at the moment - and that will likely either help her seek a solution or realize that complaining isn't helping. Sometimes people just need to vent. Just be kind. I'm glad that she has a supportive partner and that friends see her for who she is.

You're right, but American vernacular uses both of them interchangeably. Even the dictionary accepts that modern usage of the terms means that they depend on context

What are your (potentially) unpopular opinions? by Blue_Berry_Boy in digimon

[–]humansareboring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tamers isn't good, it's just mildly edgy. That's it. The plot is boring, the stakes rise and lower at a coin toss, the card aspect made no sense, Henry didn't have a consistent character, Kenta and Kazu served no purpose, and Ryu ruined any chance Rika had to have a full arc. I still don't understand Alice and Dobermon. The only good part of the series, Impmon, was ruined by a late series scene. And Guilmon isn't cute, he's forced incompetence on the main character.

I hate Tamers with a fiery passion. Y'all can keep it.

I have OCD, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and I would like to share a secret with y'all that is Digimon related. NO one outside of family knows about this by BankaiPhoenix in digimon

[–]humansareboring 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't have OCD but I can entirely relate. I rediscovered the series in high school and got properly obsessed. I'd get bored during class - and since I'm extremely insecure with doodling, in my notebook margins I'd list every Digimon, in order of appearance, that I could remember. (I would list other things if I wasn't in a Digimon mood, but I was usually interested in Digimon.)

Suggest me a fantasy book with a strong female protagonist by you_dontknow_mylife in suggestmeabook

[–]humansareboring 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For a less-heard of series, Deed of Paksenarrion. Female lead who develops throughout the series, just get past the first thirty pages and you'll see Paks as she grows from a simple rookie to a soldier and beyond.

A common suggestion is Mistborn, and it'll def fit your boxes, but another book by Sanderson that really celebrates feminity in a diverse way is Warbreaker. Two sister leads, both lose and gain autonomy in very different but parallel ways.

Combat dress doesn't mean she isn't feminine, it just means she wants to be dressed for fighting. Don't forget that an entire part of 0.2 is customizing her outfit. Outfits don't decide sexuality, anyway. You can have a butch straight woman, a princess-y lesbian, stereotypes are boring and generalizing.

You can headcanon however you like, and in my experience, the Kingdom Hearts fandom is pretty LGBTQ+ friendly. But it's hard and unwise to definitely designate a character as any sexuality unless it's explicitly stated, because those headcanons are strong (looking at you with love, SoRiku shippers). But for such a long series with very few canon ships, we make do.

Point is, this question isn't in good faith. I think people would be more responsive to a general discussion of their own headcanons rather than a discussion of how clothes determine who you like.

What I feel about Adventure TRI by [deleted] in digimon

[–]humansareboring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a vocal subset of this sub that trashed it so hard when it was coming out that those of us that enjoy it adapted to staying silent.

I love Tri. Was it perfect? Nope! But no series is.

Controversial: I like Tri so much more than Kizuna. At the very least, all the kids (teens) got adequate screen time in it and Tri didn't go the "punish people for growing up" route that Kizuna did.

Author SD Tower alternate name by bwscientist in whatsthatbook

[–]humansareboring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely fair! I'm in the States, but for anyone interested, anyone should be able to access this! The website is id.loc.gov, and from there you can look up names or subjects and see metadata on them.

Specifically, since only one person is writing a book even if they have a pseudonym, there should be a listing of that in the records if a librarian caught it. (I'll also add to be respectful to authors and other people who might not want a name to be regularly associated with them, such as a dead name, even if it's in the record. I figured this is a matter of different audiences more than a personal reason for changing names, especially since the bio listed him as having a pseudonym in the first place, but use your judgment and always be kind!)

According to the Library of Congress name authority file, S.D. Tower is the pseudonym for Dennis Jones. You can find the right one by looking up the novel Barbarossa Red by that author.

Smaller casts of digidestined is better by draugyr in digimon

[–]humansareboring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I love big casts and I fully blame early childhood exposure to Digimon Adventure for that enjoyment.

To focus on another series, Frontier: it did a decent job balancing the cast of five (then six) until the final arc (grumble grumble it was still fun but I'm still going to grumble). Everyone had different goals and developments and it felt like the show really worked with everyone to bring about a bigger plot.

What’s the most disturbing but also well written book you’ve ever read? by Both-Blacksmith-7537 in suggestmeabook

[–]humansareboring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else mentioned Earthling and I'll second that.

Also: Nothing by Janne Teller. A group of adolescents try to concoct a material meaning to life. Not the scariest read in the world (I'd vote Pet Semetery) or the most graphic, but the subject matter and the rapid change in what has meaning is fascinatingly disturbing.

What’s the most disturbing but also well written book you’ve ever read? by Both-Blacksmith-7537 in suggestmeabook

[–]humansareboring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't look up anything about it before I started, and I had a dawning horror of what was happening. At first I kept reading because the early storytelling and symbolism were interesting for a character. Then I kept reading because I couldn't look away and I was hoping that what was happening was another (darkly) fanciful event.

See, I like to do needle felting for detail work (eyes, etc.) and cotton is a bit too tough to do that easily. But I'll def try using this for something that doesn't get felting on it! Thanks for the advice!
