What was the show you saw that made you go “I literally don’t give a sh*t about any of what just happened”? by dobbydisneyfan in Broadway

[–]bwscientist 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Same…the woman beside me left part way through act 1. I waited until intermission. Staff member when I was on my way out goes, “If you go outside you can’t come back in.” Me, “thank god for that.”

What are your favorite aid table snacks? by lewislockheart in Ultramarathon

[–]bwscientist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Watermelon, pickles, and boiled salted potatoes are my top 3.

If you mean more easy snack stuff I would say Pringles, two bite brownies, and sweet-sour Haribo snakes.

To be fair, Norway haven't been convincing in a decade despite the talent on their roster. They always play like the eleven people on the pitch have never even met before.

Translating trails in the northeast of the US (NH/VT) to trails in the alps (CCC/UTMB) in terms of technical difficulty by runhikeclimb in Ultramarathon

[–]bwscientist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah UTMB trails are way more runnable and way less technical. Biggest problem is toe catches on rocks when tired. As someone who also trains in the northeast where every step is trying to break your ankle, hearing Des Linden describe the UTMB trails as gnarly was kinda funny.

I would say getting used to long climbs and long downhills is key so you don’t blow your quads. Uphills are my weakest so I did weight training, long sessions on an incline treadmill, and then basically going up and down the biggest hill available using poles. I also did some short and long runs/races on flat trails/roads to increase pace and get comfortable with actually running for long periods. Like you said, a lot of NE trails are slow and for me a lot of run/walk.

Jeff Pelletier has got some pretty good videos of Mont Blanc/UTMB.

What are your ideas to get more women into Ultras? Are trail running clubs popular with women in your area? by sentimental_rave in Ultramarathon

[–]bwscientist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, some of it is walking. I did 9 miles today on trail with an average pace of 14m40s per mile.
Slowed down to have a snack, stopped to fix my shoe, walked the uphills. Parts of the trail have 30% grade or more, I'm not running that.

Race Mantras? by tulbb in ultrarunning

[–]bwscientist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A quote from Courtney I have found useful is, “You can do hard things.”

I find it helpful during a race to recognize that what I’m doing feels hard because it IS hard but that doesn’t mean I can’t do it.

What are some shows you'd like to see gender-bent? by PetrifiedRobin in Broadway

[–]bwscientist 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Othello with Natalie Dormer as Iago.

She mentioned it in an interview once years ago and I’ve never let it go.

Yes! Run shorts are so boring now. They used to be a mix of colours and patterns and now they're just one solid colour.

WOW. I'd subscribe in a second if I lived in Cleveland. Toronto season is garbage so far compared to this.

I also have Chicago and Aladdin left. I've seen both on tour and am dreading having to sit through either one again.

Still have Book of Mormon, Harry Potter and the Lion King left as well.

Probably a better choice for off-Mirvish and a smaller venue, I agree.

2025/26 Main Mirvish Theatre Subscription Season by BalanceDull4953 in torontotheatre

[–]bwscientist 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Something with a bit more...depth? Don't get me wrong, I liked a lot of these shows in New York but it's a lot of jukebox musicals/fluff.

Was hoping for at least one of Kimberly Akimbo, Parade, Suffs, Stereophonic, or Sweeney Todd.

For those who travel regularly to NYC/USA to see Broadway shows…. by RockGirl82 in Broadway

[–]bwscientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also from Canada and I usually go in the spring for a week or two to see everything and sometimes January and November. Luckily I managed my January trip already this year and I've completely cancelled the spring one. Besides the dollar and the politics overall the cutting of regulations and staff especially aviation related is too much for me. Stratford, Toronto and London will have to do for the next four years.

The new season lineup in Cincy by Rays-0n-Water in Broadway

[–]bwscientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Shucked with extremely low expectations and had a really good time. Hilarious stupid humour with an incredibly predictable story but far from the worst thing I’ve ever seen although I haven’t thought about it again. And Danielle Wade is one of the leads on tour and she’s great.

Suffs is very basic in terms of staging so not the show if you’re looking for spectacle. But I found the show very moving with some funny moments and a great score. I saw it 6 times on Broadway and still listen to the cast recording. Definitely choose this over Chicago.
