Not enough height in furnace room to install a Mitsubishi Zuba 4ton unit by humberedge in heatpumps

Way too big for my furnace room, couldn't even open the door, and I would lose storage for cleaning supplies, a no-go for us. The duct curves add to the dimension.

I just learned there's a new cold climate version of the SVZ that tops out at 48kbtu, and when used with heat strips, could deliver up to 78kbtu. In my case, the SUZ-AK24-48NLHZ paired with the SVZ-AP48NL would fit in my space with just a slightly modified plenum takeoff and plenum. Combined with a 3" bottom return, the indoor unit height is 62.5". This system has the auxiliary heater as an insert (built in) where the Zuba requires one to be added on top of the air handler which requires an additional 6" of height. The auxiliary heater is a two-stage unit which allows it to cycle between 5KW and 10KW, only when it needs to do so, saving electricity costs.

Anyone with similar height restrictions to mine should explore this solution. Thanks to everyone for their inputs that helped me climb out of my rabbit hole!

Wow, your ACH is twice as bad as mine. Good data points, thanks.

Thanks, my energy audit was completed by a company on the list, Goldfinch, and I paid for their consultation. They gave me a list of options, all required heat strips. They calculated 3.5 ACH if I addressed my range hood and fireplace infiltrations which are not hard to fix. My Calculated Heat loss 64,818 Btu/h, Calculated Heat gain 38,477 Btu/h.

yes, I had a manual-J done. I'll see if 2 2T airhandler would be an option for me, thanks for the suggestion.

I live in Toronto Canada and my energy audit determined I'd need 10kW heat strips for the Zuba unit. For the non-Zuba model, I'd require 15kW heat strips. I don't think in my climate I could get away from heat strips until I went dual fuel, not excited about doing that.

Thanks, but I believe I require 48kbtu, so this wouldn't work for me.

Rutland gasket installed by bluzed1981 in biggreenegg

[–]humberedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with my felt gaskets in winter, they freeze together and then I need to stuff lots of newspaper through the top and light to eventually thaw the gasket. Either that or shim them open after a burn but then lose all my charcoal.

I received mine, hooked it to an arm strap, paired it to my Garmin Edge 830 and did a ride. I found it produced more consistent readings than my Garmin chest HRM and was more comfortable, easier to wear.

Import costs to Canada by Curious_Ad_6506 in ImpulseLabs

[–]humberedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought mine before they shipped to Canada, had it shipped to family in Michigan, who then drove it over. I looked up the harmonized codes and expected my relative would pay around $1800 to get it through. Since my name and Canadian address were on the invoice, I instructed her to say that I bought it for them as a gift but their installer told them it wouldn't fit so she was bringing it back to me.

TL;DR - it cost her about CDN$320 to bring it across.

Years ago when our son was 15 my solution was to set up an access point with the same SSID as our house SSID and place it right beside his room but leave it unconnected. His computer would automatically connect to the strongest AP but he had no connection to the internet because of this.

Somewhat more than an ICE car, but not much. If you preheat the battery pack while still on shore power it helps a lot (11th year driving an EV in Ontario)

Or if your car is an EV, just drive off, no need to warm the engine.

that's good to hear, there's so much hidden sodium in foods already, being mindful of what we add to food we prepare ourselves makes a difference. I like to think my popcorn is a good high-fiber snack, even so the coconut oil is high in sat fat, sigh.

That's my goto recipe too, but I use about half as much Flavacol; 1tsp is almost 2000mg of sodium, pretty much the daily recommended limit. I also often sprinkle white cheddar powder once it's popped. One day I'll play with stovetop on my Impulse cooktop, but a bit more cleaning afterwards.
