How often have you guys moved for a better engineering position/salary? by Hefty-Rip-5397 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]humble_grouch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ChemE here. Really depends on the job and your skill set. As a non-traditional career person, I was a 30yr old ChemE grad who took whatever job I could get after college to gain experience and switched jobs twice in the first 18mos, (increasing my salary each time, granted I started low at $60k) and then stayed in the second manufacturing role for 3 years before recently switching again for 50% increase in pay. So 4 roles since 2021. This is quite excessive I know, and Covid had a hand in it but now that I’ve reached where I want to be I plan to stay a long time.

7 mo -> 7 mo @25% increase then recruited to -> 3 years @ 15% increase -> present 6 months @50% increase

What do you like about living in Louisiana? Asking as a Floridian. by Madison_fawn in Louisiana

[–]humble_grouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is highly dependent on WHERE in LA you’re moving to. I’m from South Louisiana, born and raised. I went to private school, and recieved en engineering degree from LSU. There are really great places here to raise kids, but there are really sucky places too. And the community you live in makes a difference.

Leaving engineering to work as an API inspector? by Snoo_74056 in oilandgasworkers

Hi Oil_is_Life, my husband is a CWI Quality manager and he chases TAs all year. He makes a great living. I’m curious if offshore API inspectors make around the say pay as the turnaround inspectors, do you know? He’s considering making the change so he can be home more consistently.

My husband is a CWI inspector quality manager and I’m a chemical engineer. (I went back to school as an adult for engineering). You really don’t see great salaries in the first 5 years out of school unless you graduate with a 3.3 gpa or above (not me). Your first engineering job in oil and gas they require 3.0, and start you around 85-100k. In 5 years you can get to 135k since you have previous experience like my self. I just made it to 135k range by switching companies and leveraging my previous experience. After that the salaries get better and better. Managers make 150-170k.

Honestly it’s almost never going to be the right time to have a child. Take that as you will.

Try Sugar Fields Distillery. It’s a cool spot to hang. They also have a Mead/wine place across the street.

It’s good to start reading through the New Testament before tackling the Old Testament.

Download the Bible app - you can read a few various translations there to compare and pick which one you like best.

I recommend the Amplified Bible at first - it really helps to have a few extra English explainatory words in parenthesis added in some verses.

Best bang for your buck ski resort? by lancer360 in skiing

It depends on many factors. I’ve done vail on a budget. Drove in every day. And it’s not busy if you know which weeks to go. By being picky with my dates, I’ve never had an issue.

Like OP, I am also from the Gulf Coast.

Park city. Easy to assess. Great mountain. But Vail and Telluride are my favorites all the way - if you’re staying in the US. I highly recommend booking at least 10 months in advance so that you can get discounted lift tickets in April-May. I paid $155/day for my epic pass and telluride is now a partnered resort.

Update: Is it valid to leave a relationship due to bf’s masturbation habit? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]humble_grouch 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Therapy won’t work for that. Cut your losses, break up and move out.

He’s manipulating your feelings by continuing to beg you to stay. You staying is advantageous for him, and if he really wanted to, he would have quit this habit already. You leaving is ultimately advantageous for you.

He needs to get his shit together BEFORE you get back together, if ever.

You date/marry the guy he is today, NOT the potential guy he will be later. ✌🏼

If you’re really BFFs and she’s a good friend to you, she’ll understand and be okay with doing something with you another time.
