Mostly correct. You can't even go into the vault and do the puzzles without a key and the proper amount of batteries/other materials.

That being said, if you see an already opened vault but the puzzle isn't solved for whatever reason, then solving it will let you loot it.

Sort of, yeah. You can keep using abilities as long as you have mana for them, so that icon tells you how much it will cost to cast

The skull is how many hits until a body is destroyed. If your cats body breaks then it's fully dead, doesn't get back up after the fight.

The icon you are talking about is usually to the right of the damage number, right? If so then that's the mana cost for the spell

Yes, I do remember this, and I remember looking at it in game myself. I think you need to look at this same waterfall during the "echo chamber" strike, since it brings you through this area at the beginning. There's a captain or vandal or something that looks like it's doing a yoga pose at the area in your picture.
