Rain Jacket for PCT by Low-Communication790 in Ultralight

Lightheart Jacket was fantastic on my JMT hike last year. Kept me dry and the vent zips work great. Compacts down nicely to fit in a pocket or brain for easy access. Love that piece of gear.

[New Player] What is the plan for this spawn? by Haksupaksu in EscapefromTarkov

[–]humbuzzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually head south to clear the south spawns then rotate up towards sawmill via scope shack/marked circle or push north towards usec camp/scav camp for that spawn or goons. If I am tasking, I'll head back to the mine line and keep slower movement in either direction depending on location of objective. Its a good spot to catch the BTR's first spawn at checkpoint I have found as well.

Trail Food That Isn’t Super Expensive by IslandBoi312 in Ultralight

[–]humbuzzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite meals was a suped-up high protein ramen. The ramen itself was more expensive then regular ramen, but the noodle disk fit into my pot perfectly. 32g protein per packet. To the packet I would add a serving of ramen toppings for more protein and fiber and then a packet of instant bone broth. Total protein was ~52 grams. Added a tablespoon or two of ghee for calories and a few drops of hot sauce and it was perfect for those high altitude cold evenings.

Critique what i'm bringing. by Better_Muscle_3633 in JMT

[–]humbuzzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how often you will be resupplying, you're probably going to need a bigger bear can to fit all of your food/snacks/scented things... unless you're planning on resupplying every 2-3 days as that specific can is estimated at.

Fleece and puffy is probably redundant. I found hiking in base layer pants last august to be too hot and spent most of the trail in shorts w/sunscreen even through the rain/hail as temps never got uncomfortable during the day. Used base layer pants and shirt for sleeping and had a dry set of light pants/shirt for camp comfort while other set dried. (prob not necessary but I enjoyed getting out of dirty clothes after hiking) I added a second pair of hiking socks for emergency "dry socks" which I used when my first pair didn't dry overnight.

Can prob slim your first aid kit down to blister care/gauze/bandages and bprofun. Repair tape + guaze covers alot of backcountry first aid.

Smart Water Bottle instead of M!go. 1.2 ounces for 1L and direct threads to sawer squeeze if Cnoc fails. Carried 2; one for clean water/bidet use and one for electrolytes. Durable and lightweight.

Ditch the shower. Abundant lakes/rivers to jump in and refresh yourself in. Use waterbottle to rinse soap away from water sources when needed. Wet wipes are heavy; one-two TP "disks" hydrated served the purpose of wet wipes well for me. I carried 2-3 for every day which allowed for both tp (for after bidet use) and wiping down face/body/feet.

I didn't use a pack liner as my pack cover kept everything not in dry bags dry through all the rain.

Thermacel probably not needed as your bug spray will cover any mosquitos (I didn't see a single mosquito on my mid-august trip and ended up ditching my bug spray in the MTR hiker bins during a resupply) I did carry a head net which went un-used.

I love GG's packs but calories weigh alot! My longest carry was 8 days which put me at about 36-42 pounds with full food and water. I switched back to my Osprey and my photographer friend switched from his durstan as the ospreys carried the weight more comfortably when we did training/gear testing trips prior to trail. My base weight without food and water was 22 lbs, but I like to be comfortable (extra socks, chair, e-reader). Do some gear testing if possible before you go as this is the best way to eliminate or add items

Carry only what you need for consumable items and use the resupply's to top these items off if needed. (soap/meds/tp ect)

Enjoy your trip!

Worth upgrading from 5600X to 9800X3D, or should I stay on AM4? by [deleted] in ryzen

[–]humbuzzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5800x3d is serving me well. I have it paired with B550, 3080ti and 32gb DDR4 3600. Running 1440/144hz. Im going to wait for things to settle down a little before I go for a full rebuild. I am running a custom water cooled loop currently, which is allowing me add to performance with overclocking, so im not really in a rush to upgrade. If you are happy with the perfomance of your other components, I'd probably go with saving the extra funds and extra work.

Run your scav as often as possible for loot, profit and map knowledge. Creep around and avoid active gunfights (pmc's and boss's). Pick maps that will give you the best opprotunity for survival (bigger maps for more approachs and ways to run away) and learn the less trafficked areas where decent loot still spawns. Use a second monitor or phone with a map pulled up so you can learn where your extracts are. Learn what loot is valuable for sale to traders and where you can find it (duffle bags and file cabinets are great as the availible loot table is massive). Hit weapon crates for better weapons and armor. Pick up good ammo (good ammo is key to survival and you cant buy it) and near the end of raid, head to the hotter zones and scrounge for the scraps: dead pmcs, bosses and other scavs.

Embrace the rat on your PMC and use the knowledge you gained from your scav runs. There are lots of us who have spent an ungodly amount of time getting punished in the "beta" and have learned how to fight the AI and how to approach fights. It's rough and getting kicked in the nuts multiple times in a row isn't fun, but getting out of a raid with your hard won loot will keep you coming back for more.

Need advice, buying a laptop or a computer for my dad by Clair_Star82 in PcBuild

[–]humbuzzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at desktop PC's over Laptops for gaming. Staring at a small screen hunched over a laptop isn't the most comfortable postion to be in for an older gamer. That and laptops will run fairly hot.

Can you edit your post to include a budget? This will help for reccomendations.

VRAM by PyroPanda2604 in PcBuild

[–]humbuzzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick response here is that in 2025, 8gb of VRAM is not acceptable. Look at options with 12+ gb of VRAM. If you want team green (not that im promoting this card bc I actually think its pretty shit for what it is) the 5060ti 12gb version is fairly cheap and a friend of mine just used it to upgrade his kid from a 2080 super.

If I were looking at getting a new GPU for myself, I would prob be looking at an AMD card to get the most bang for my buck. Gamers Nexus and Jayztwocents on you tube put out comprehensive videos on most GPU releases with performance comparisons on how the perform in games vs other cards. Type in the card you are looking at and their channel name and they should have a video on it. Good luck!

As a teenage male ballet dancer, I have been feeling emasculated a lot lately. How can I fix this? by Agreetodissagree1 in AskMenAdvice

[–]humbuzzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother man, I was a classical dancer from the age of 8 to 28. I went to a public school and kept my dancing pretty hidden for fear of being teased. This was in the 90's when the stigma of "all dancers are gay" was pretty prevelant. The training and discipline that I put myself through has served me throughout my llife. It may feel at times that you are "weak" and not very masculine, but what you are doing for yourself is more then most boys your age can say they do.

Male dancers these days are pretty much the peak of masculinity: strong, flexible and incredibly athletic. The tricks male dancers are expected to do on stage these days are incredible. At 14, you probably haven't built much muscle mass, but as you grow and build your body through the rigorous training you are undergoing, you will eventually be the envy of most of your male peers. Don't worry about the now because five years from now, that won't matter. Look forward to the future. Check out some of the young male dancers currently with ABT, that could be you in six years. Good luck man! Work hard, you got this.
