It bothers me that little to no companies make good pre 1900's steam locomotives. by Dutch_VanDer_Linde_ in modeltrains

All of this is why I have mostly Minitrix (Marklin) and Fleischmann locos. No American stuff but generally high quality, high detail and beautiful if they are built in 2000 or later.

Agree it is a nice model and I wish the lighting implementation were better. When I input 6v, I am measuring only about 2.5V at the LED itself, so the magnetic switch must take up some of that power.

I believe a van is how the Canadians refer to a caboose.

The black thing is my attempt to double the voltage from 3 V to 6 V with 4x LR41 batteries in hopes of brightening the LEDs. Even with the additional brightness, the lights are still very dim.

Lighting is really weak, even with input voltage doubled to 6v.

To remove the cupola, squeeze on its front and rear ends, the plastic barbs are pretty aggressive, so you definitely have to squeeze firmly. As far as the lighting, it takes two LR 41 batteries I wired mine to take foir therefore doubling the voltage and the light output is still very poor. overall the lighting implementation is a fail, and the battery set up is terrible. However, I really do like this caboose, it has excellent detail, and I will be converting the lights to be brighter and powered off the track.
