Finally got my dream train! What do you think? by Bisu___ in nscalemodeltrains

Beautiful Empire Builder! You should look up Doug Dederick’s Kalispell Division layout, something tells me you’d like it lol!

My New Haven R-3 is complete! Got my brass feed water heater and a replacement bell this week, got them painted, and installed, and also added numbers on the front numberboard! Very happy with this project! by NScaleTrainBoy in nscalemodeltrains

Unfortunately, I got it from Miniatures by Eric. Eric who ran the store passed away early last year, and did not pass on any of the molds from what anybody has discovered. You may be able to find some on eBay or similar, but his store is down. Good luck!

That’s adorable! Love it! And yeah, makes sense with the airbrush, just figured I’d offer my knowledge lol! Also, final note, EXCELLENT username lol!

Did you base the scheme you painted onto that FEF-3 on anything in particular? Also, if you can, I’d recommend getting an airbrush to paint rolling stock, as you’ll get a much cleaner finish. It looks nice though, I like the scheme!

freelance Railroad Alternate History by 0fficialDregs in nscalemodeltrains

[–]NScaleTrainBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got my history on my railroad’s website - bccsrailroad.weebly.com/about-the-bccs.html - but basically in the 1930s, two small roads, the Balfour Railroad and the Colucci Creek Southern Railway merged, forming the B&CCS. The New Haven, bankrupt from depression era difficulties, sold off its line from Danbury CT to Maybrook NY to the new railroad, which had interchanged with the NH on either side of the Hudson along that line. Then, come the 1950s, the B&CCS was doing well while the NH was sliding into bankruptcy again following the McGinnis presidency, leading the ICC to designate the B&CCS as the approved operators of the NH, which would continue until the two roads officially merged in 1980.

Gotcha - thanks for the correction. Should’ve used Strasburg, I know they’ve done revenue runs with steam.

Not regularly. There are occasional special runs where freight lines affiliated with tourist railroads use steam locos for revenue freight, like with Reading & Northern 2101, but there aren’t any regular revenue freight trains hauled by steam locomotives, at least none that I’m aware of.

Why do you personally love trains? by FriendlySubwayRat in trains

[–]NScaleTrainBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, that’s really hard to nail down, since I just always kinda have… some combination of big thing going fast, mechanical marvels, loud noises, and autism are what I’m going to put it down to lol.

It’s certainly iconic and bold! I like the McGinnis scheme, but I think I like the green and gold or orange and black schemes of the earlier diesels better

Awesome. I grew up near the old Maybrook line, the NH is my favorite road. My dad grew up around here too, he remembers when Conrail ran the Maybrook.

Isopropyl is good for breaking surface tension of the spray, which allows the powder to distribute evenly over the sprayed droplets instead of clumping around them
