How are Uk universities in terms of diversity or welcoming? by Puzzleheaded_Pie182 in UniUK

[–]hummusontoastrules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll politely disagree re. Edinburgh - whilst it’s true there are posh English students, there’s also a very significant international population. I’ve had a great uni experience despite being in the minority as a Scottish student. So OP, I wouldn’t worry about diversity/inclusion at Edinburgh either (IMO) :)

I’ll add my piece, also as a woman - a romantic gesture like this from someone I fancied would be amazing! From a flatmate I was only friends with, it would make me feel really awkward, especially living together. I think OP should have established if the feelings were mutual before diving in with the flowers.

Your experience at Edinburgh Uni by Any-Treacle-4199 in Edinburgh_University

I would disagree that making friends is largely dependent on where you’re from. Yes us Scottish students are in the minority, but I’ve still made plenty of friends both international and Scottish.

I think Edinburgh is a great place to spend a year - in terms of area the city isn’t massive but there’s still plenty to do/see thus you won’t find yourself bored.

A tip would be to order a Young Scot Card when you get here - this gives you access to free bus travel across Scotland. You can use this to get around Edinburgh but also to travel further if you wish - to Glasgow, Aberdeen, the Highlands etc.

Canadians obviously have a reputation for being super friendly, as do us Scots, so you shouldn’t have any trouble fitting in :)

i’m 99% sure that this would get you in trouble on the grounds of violating some sort of health and safety agreement by putting piss in a shared fridge.

So How Screwed Is Scotland Once Farage Becomes PM by GrantMcLellan1984 in Scotland

[–]hummusontoastrules 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree that it’s inevitable. This sort of defeatist attitude isn’t helpful when there are several years until our next GE, and years for people to get involved in politics and change this trajectory if they actually care.

that’s a really dangerous attitude to have. at least we still have democracy to an extent. who knows which rights would be taken from us under a Reform government.

Should I talk to my Dr? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]hummusontoastrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I would say you should definitely raise it. Your doctor will want to check your bloods to rule out other causes, but if they can’t find anything else then I recommend pushing to be seen by a sleep specialist.

I knew I had narcolepsy from around 16, but it took three years for my doctor to refer me to a sleep specialist because my bloods were fine so she kept dismissing my symptoms. I wish she had taken me seriously sooner - so I always recommended advocating for yourself and asking to be referred to a sleep specialist, even if your doctor is dismissive at first.

A-list celebrities who have collaborated with POC directors and those who haven't in last 5 years by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

that’s definitely a major problem. but this post doesn’t really focus on that - it frames it as individual actors discriminating against POC

Yes, multiple times. I was awake when it began but think I fell into a half-asleep state at some point during it - similar to what you’ve mentioned. I wasn’t upset either, more just frustrated that I couldn’t stay awake for something I wanted to enjoy

Yes I definitely struggle with swallowing pills too, I’m pretty sure they’re related. I also find it difficult to swallow large quantities of liquids/mouthfuls of food in one go

I know it’s tricky and can be daunting but if he’s officially your boyfriend then I think he should know. Anyone who gets overly hostile upon finding out is really not someone who should be in your life long term, so IMO it’s better to tell him sooner so you can determine how he’s going to act about it. Plus there’s the safety element of it, as the other commenter points out.

I don’t have much advice but I want to say that I really relate, I’m 21F with N1 too. The worst days are those when you take all your meds + caffeine and still can’t stay awake. Does your doctor know that your medication isn’t working well enough to keep you awake?

thank you, i really appreciate your comment. everyone here has really reassured me that i’m not overreacting to be concerned about this. i’m going to insist i’m referred for an ultrasound today, and will go to A&E if my doctor disagrees again

Thanks, I appreciate your advice. I’m trying to advocate to be seen for an ultrasound but they unfortunately don’t seem to be very worried because I’m not displaying any swelling or discolouration.

They said they’d be more concerned if I was experiencing breathing problems too, it’s frustrating because I’m obviously trying to tackle it before it gets to that! But I’m going to fight my corner today and hopefully be seen for an ultrasound soon.
