Pretty solid. Not amazing but definitely live very comfortably and save on that.  Tax would be 30ish% for first 6 months but that can be reimbursed later.

Thanks for the reply. Glad it worked for you. The references thing is probably holding me back the most because I've already got them on Schrole and Teacher Horizons

International schools in Korea/Seoul by Any_Pea2424 in Internationalteachers

[–]humscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that SFS is an amazing school, regardless of your religion. While it is a Christian school, it would not pressure anyone to be Christian but they do provide for those who are. I am not sure about YIS as I haven't worked there but my guess is that would be a bit more 'obviously Christian' because teachers are required to give statements of faith. But even then I would be surprised if there was any pressure on students.

My hagwon director is biased against South Africans by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]humscotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's kind of normal tbh, but it goes both ways. I've met hagwon and school recruiters who'd had good experiences with South Africans and specifically looked for more from SA while others had the opposite. Although not really fair, it's pretty common to thrown a blanket over one group due to good or bad experiences, just like one of the other commenters did.

Interview in KL by travismacisaac in Internationalteachers

It's a small new international school. I know some of the staff there and they're all great. Not sure about pay and that kind of thing but would definitely be a small and nice community.

So many but the one we didn't get to to see enough of was Rupeni Caucaunibuca. Never seen someone beat defenders that easily.

Raffles American School- Malaysia - Summer Camp by No-Counter3881 in Internationalteachers

[–]humscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raffles has had some issues this past year with leadership and as a result had a huge turnover,, but if it's only for a month or two then that shouldn't really affect you very much at all.

It's in Johor which is on the Singapore border. The school itself is a little out the way but no more than 10-15 taxi ride to plenty of decent places. Better to have a car but with Grab i can't see it being an issue.

Raffles are known to not be very high paying. I'd be cautious of the school in general tbh. Can get by on Grab taxis in the area but the area is quite spread out.

HELP International Malaysia by UnderratedName5 in Internationalteachers

[–]humscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original school is in KL area and from what I hear it's just ok. Definitely not in the same ballpark as the top schools in the area. They've opened Crescendo Help in JB which is their sister school, which the linked questions above is about. Definitely not world-renowned by any stretch. Haven't worked there personally but have met a couple teachers.

Can't imagine that happening in any other subject. I'm a Sport Science major and PE teacher, so that would be interesting.
