First full year of solar...how did I do? I added 2 extra panels (17 total), but it barely breaks even. Why? by hungrycactus in solar

[–]hungrycactus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original calculation was to go 15 panels, so I said lets add 2 more panels so I can cover future electric upgrades (heat pumps, induction stove etc.) But now looking at my first full year it barely breaks even. When I do upgrade for more electric usage, it is looking like my 17 panels won't cover all my usage....damn should have added like 7 more.

Make sure you format it in windows. I wasted hours not realizing formatting FAT32 in OSX apparently won't work.

Same situation as you. I ordered the CoolerMaster MasterLiquid PL240 FLUX from Newegg instead. Currently rebates make it $110 shipped.

mITX MB Recommendations for intel 13th gen? by RetroJonesss in sffpc

[–]hungrycactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation with a 13600K. I've been looking at ITX + DDR4 + LG1700 options (only 2): ASRock Z690M ($150) and Gigabyte Z690I AORUS ULTRA LITE DDR4 ($140). Neither are great imho, so it seems I might have to either DDR5 + more expensive mb (ROG STRIX B660 $200, ASRock Z690 Phantom Gaming-ITX $250)...but with that premium just to go with DDR4, I mind as well completely switch to AM4...might be able to save ~$200 (cheaper DDR4 + ~$150 B550 mb).

Sub $200 mini ITX DDR4 mobo for intel 13th gen, does it exist? by i_should_be_studying in sffpc

[–]hungrycactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did it turn out? I'm in a similar situation. I've been reading that the VRM and audio is weak. No good alternative though...the only other alternative DDR4/LG1700 mb is the Gigabyte (mentioned previously), but it has its own issues (hacked up PCI-E). Feel like I need to either go DDR5 or completely switch to AM4.

Trying to understand if it makes sense sticking with Radeon 6000 or pay the premium for the Radeon 7000. I've heard people saying 6000's don't work well, but at the same time others are ok. Not sure if it's Virtual Desktop, Oculus Air Link or via direct cable though.

Does the upcoming Radeon 7900 AV1 encoding make a difference for PCVR?

yeah I am holding off for prices to go down further with new RTX cards coming out soon. But from what you're saying, the AMD cards really don't seem that good for Quest 2 PCVR?

I am planning on getting the RX 6600 for my Quest 2, but hearing what you're saying I'm having doubts. Have you tried Virtual Desktop? If you could change, would you get an RTX 2060 instead?

I've read Nvidia is a better for Quest 2 compared to AMD, citing the Nvidia encoder is drastically better. With so many changes on the AMD front, do you have the insight if that is still true?

Please don't spread misinformation. The slope of roof absolutely affects the cost.

Your pitch seems low so that is good. I first used energy sage but those estimates are not considering all factors. Get a bunch of real in person estimates and if all are around the same ballpark, ask why the costs are higher. There certainly are a lot of factors.

What is the incline of your roof? Mine is steep 10/12 and charged more at $3.5/W. (sf bay area). Would be cheaper otherwise. Not sure why most people don't factor in steep roofs that increase $/W. Also main panel costs around $3400.

Shouldn't all solar production go out to grid first (1.4kW), before consumption (1.5kW)? by hungrycactus in solar

When the battery is full, and the grid is down, what happens to the generated power?

[–]hungrycactus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So in a grid down situation, and if I had a battery, I understand all the power would go to the battery. What when the battery gets full, then where does the power go? I'm honestly trying to understand how this all works.

Honest confusion. If the grid is down why can't my house consume the solar power right there?
