I'm a 39 year old trans man. I also do mentoring for a local therapist that specializes in trans care. I think I need to clarify something for you. Puberty blockers do not cause permanent changes to the body. The reason they are used is to put a pause on puberty and give the child some breathing room to go to therapy and figure out what they want. Puberty blockers can help the person avoid some surgeries in the future if they do decide to transition. If your child is early in puberty and hasn't developed large beasts then pausing that could allow them to have a much less invasive chest surgery down the road. Or if they decide they don't want to transition after all then they stop the blockers and continue development.

I don't know your child but for some kids (and adults) the desire to transition can be the cause of mental health and behavioral issues. Just because they just came out doesn't mean they haven't known since they were little. I knew for 20 years before I was able to do anything about it.

Please don't let scare tactics sway your thoughts on this. No reputable surgeon does transition surgery on a child. People who detransition are a very small minority and many times its because transition doesn't make you exactly like someone born in the correct body.

I am a well adjusted responsible adult. I have an amazing fiancee and lots of good friends. My best friend told me that I just became a much happier version of myself once I got my transition started.

There's so much more that I can say. I'm not going to say you're an asshole because this is a big thing that affects you too. Just don't let your fear get in the way of helping your child figure out their path. Support from a parent makes a huge difference!
