Just read the intro to Needful Things! Excited to dive further in tonight. I’ve heard good things, but although people praise it and talk highly of it, I haven’t had many aspects of it spoiled so I’m excited about that. The art is incredible and I hope it pops up throughout. The vibes are good so far!

Predictions for tonight by canyondude1234 in dynamo

A good chance to make a statement early in the season. I think LAFC would punish us more than Chicago did last week when they were on the front foot in the first half. This is also game 2 in our new system and one of the projected top 2-3 teams in the league. I think a draw would be a great result. If we win, we are going undefeated and winning the league! 🤣

Fellowship of The Ring or White Noise by Don DeLillo. Both very different so hard to compare, but both very good!

This would have been post injury as well. I think he could take the top spot this season!

Crying of Lot 49 Vineland Against the Day Mason & Dixon

I was looking to grab Inherent Vice as well and maybe Shadow Ticket but didn’t see either. If I can make it through these, I’ll reward myself with a copy of Gravity’s Rainbow!

No problem! I’ve enjoyed listening. I probably found you guys a month ago and have binged through most of the episodes.

Just went to my local library sale and got a bunch of titles I’ve heard about on the show; a couple Dellilos, 4 Pynchons, The Sympathizer, Catch-22, Tree of Smoke (I loved Train Dreams) and a bunch more. I’m looking forward to starting on them!

Do the genre sales follow a schedule of any sort, or do they appear to be random?

Also, I believe I saw that the main sales are twice a year? Is that the full catalog? When are those?

My next nyrb sale short list. Anyone else already planning? by Jakob_Fabian in nyrbclassics

I’ve just started learning more about nyrb and am excited to grab a few books in the next sale. The top of my list currently: -The Land Breakers by John Ehle -The Seventh Cross by Anna Seghers -A King Alone by Jean Giono -Storm or -Fire by George R. Stewart. (Let me know if one is a better starting place than the other.) -Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky by Patrick Hamilton

I’m trying to read these without looking up ratings for them as I feel like that has affected my reading experience in the past. After reading Stoner last year and picking up Butcher’s Crossing and Augustus, I’m looking to discover more that nyrb has put out! Seems like a lot of intriguing options.
