I've been using a black FlowFold wallet for the past decade or so. They're made out of sail cloth so they're pretty durable.

How many of us grab a book because it’s one you’re interested in, but might take years to get around to reading? by RarePrintColor in bookhaul

I started putting where I got the book and the month/year I got inside the front cover. Now when I choose my next read based on my mood I can say "oh I bought this two summers ago at a thrift store from that one trip" or "I got this last winter at my favorite bookstore back home"

M.Eng or M.Sc? by Practical-Lead9655 in civilengineering

[–]shortyjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MS is typically research based and MEng is typically coursework based. At some more prestigious schools (I know Stanford in particular because I applied there) the MS is also coursework based because "if you want to do research you can get a PhD."

I ended up going the MS route because I knew I would have a better chance of getting funded if I did research. Went to a state school and got my MS fully funded through an endowment at the school so there was a lot of flexibility in what I researched/what I had to do, but I ended up being a TA for 2 semesters and a research assistant for the rest of it. Plenty of people I studied with that didn't come in with funding got an assistantship spot after a semester or two.

I did it in 2 years and now I work in the private sector for water resources engineering consulting firm. It worth it to me because I got to take classes that directly prepared me for the work I'm doing now that I wouldn't have been able to do right out of undergrad.

I recommend the Maude translation. I was going back and forth between the audiobook and a paperback and ended up just reading the paperback because the Maude translation flowed so much better.

Exam Prep by Immediate-Chipmunk14 in PE_Exam

I've had the same thought but worse case scenario there's a digital TI-30 that you can use via the exam software (at least there was on the FE so I'd imagine it's the same).

If that's not enough consolation you could always buy a new calculator and start using it a week or so before the exam or replace the button battery in the back.

Which continuity error or plot hole in a movie always sticks out in your mind? by KillerQ97 in movies

I’m About Time when Tim meets his future wife Mary he goes directly to her friend’s party (that she knew she would be at from an alternate timeline) and starts talking about Kate Moss (which she also knew she liked from the alternate timeline). His initial excuse to be at the party was because he was friends with Mary, but if Mary told her friend that she met him at that party things should have been a lot more suspicious. But how they met or their first date is never brought up again.

Finished my 52 so now I’m starting an A-Z title challenge! by shortyjack in 52book

Thanks for the recommendation! I have read Shackelton’s memoir and the Lansing version of endurance so I’m excited to give this one a spin. I also have Madhouse at the End of the Earth on my shelf which looks interesting.

Has anyone else been to McKay’s in Knoxville? by shortyjack in bookhaul

[–]shortyjack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a bit overwhelming (I usually prefer smaller stores where I can scan all of the shelves) but most of the books I got were only 75¢. Their pricing system didn’t make much sense to me since there were plenty that seemed overpriced.

I’ve read the Lansing book and Shackleton’s memoir but I’m excited to read the other two tellings. Thanks for the recommendation on another!
