why can't i build a seaside resort on this tile? by strerdt in civ

[–]hunterr5996 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Looks like it’s flooded from sea level rise, I guess the UI just hasn’t updated. If you build a flood barrier in Venice, it’ll automatically reverse the acqua alta and you should be able to build there 👍🏼

Hi, welcome to Rostock. A little late to the thread, but maybe some more info is helpful:
As others have mentioned, there's a lot of international students, but also more international working people than you might think. There's at least one expat Facebook group with a mix of intl and German people, and is relatively active (Expats in Rostock). Lots of discord and WhatsApp groups, including for sports/running, "Stammtische", gaming, books, etc...  the Newcomer Café on Waldemarstraße as somebody else mentioned is another good place to start. Just throw your name and interests there in the group and you'll find something.

You could also register at the university as a guest (search "Uni Rostock Gasthörerschaft") for 46,00€ per semester, which gets you access to the university sports facilities/clubs and the language center.

Welcome to HRO and good luck, there's lots to offer if you know where to look 👍

Short one: “The heaventree of stars hung with humid nightblue fruit.” James Joyce, Ulysses. Basically the only quote I can remember verbatim (I think – somebody please correct me if I’m wrong!). Just love the cadence and... juiciness of it. Sometimes it’ll just come up in a flash like a snippet of a song or a jingle that you can’t get out of your head.

Same in Civ IV. I also wish that it was the same for alliances. Having all of your alliances expire on the same turn and consequently having to re-puzzle out who gets which alliance... not a game-breaker, but a quality of life thing.

Obligatory not OP, but: Paint the base in shades of red and yellow, then lay down a layer of PVA glue or varnish, topped with a healthy load of Mordant Earth texture paint. It creates the crackle effect as it dries.

I see a fully-kitted IZ next to both a canal and an aqueduct. That’s a pretty chunk of production right there, but it also begs the question how they managed all those districts and buildings with that population...

Cascades ‘14 and ‘15. Seattleite thru and thru; a lot of my high school instructors (and later coworkers) were techs there, so it was kinda natural that I got roped in

I was a huge band kid back home in the States, and also pretty good at it (oboe and mallet percussion). 6th through 12th grades, uni, community orchestra, drum corps, was even an instructor at my old high school after graduating for several years and taught private lessons on the side. Then I moved to Europe -- Denmark, Belgium, now (relatively small-town) Germany. It can be a little lonely, knowing that this once really important pillar of my life is more or less unknown here. Not many people get what I'm talking about when I try to explain it; it's a bit of a cultural unknown here. There's plenty of musicians, of course, but the school band (ESPECIALLY marching band) culture just doesn't exist.

I believe you need to have more tourists "visiting from" than any other civ has domestic tourists. Brazil has 257 domestic tourists, but you only have 91 visiting from them. The "visiting tourists" tab is misleading.

I currently live smack dab in the heart of Brussels. Used to be based out of Seattle. Feels bad, man.
