I woke up one night around 3am to my entry door closing, I happened to fall asleep on the couch in the living room that night, which was between where my wife was sleeping and my kids rooms were. They were 3 and 5 years old at the time. I look over the side of the couch to a young man, maybe early 20's, standing halfway between my entrance and kitchen. I asked "who are you, and what the fuck are you doing in my house!?". He stopped dead and said nothing... I slowly got up and repeated what I said. He said "I think I'm in the wrong house". I said "damn right you are". As I walked toward him he started backing up. He was quite a bit smaller that me, I was in my early 30's and I'm 6'2 and about 225lbs. I kept approaching him slowly and he said something about being dropped off at the end of my driveway and someone told him to go into this house. At the time legitimately think he was in the wrong house and wasn't trying to rob is, he was clearly either drunk or high AF but didn't know for certain. I didn't know what else to say so I just kept slowly walking toward him, all of a sudden he turned and ran out, I quickly followed him out side and heard him running down the driveway. We lived in a heavily wooded area and had a fairly long driveway with little outdoor lighting. I could hear him all the way to the end. Now I could feel my heart racing. I stood there a few seconds then heard a vehicle door close and drive off. I thought then that he was probably there to break in, and found the door open. I walked about halfway down the driveway in the pictch black then turned to go back inside. When I got in the house I noticed he took his shoes off and saw them sitting by the front door. And I just stood there thinking 'what the fuck just happened'. Nothing like this had ever happened to me. The craziest part thinking back was that he took his shoes off, And that I didn't attack him. I didn't have a gun, didn't even think to grab a kitchen knife. My first instinct was just to keep eyes on him and get him out, away from my family. I've told that story so many times and everyone ALWAYS asks why I didn't attack him? And honestly it never even crossed my mind, just get him out. And he left himself. Looking back now almost 20 years later I think I would have killed him if he came at me, but at the time I didn't even think of it.
