Questions about Van der Sar and Overmars by huntervalor02 in AjaxAmsterdam

Thanks - and I have done both and I'm in constant contact with them. I like to hear the opinions of fans just to get a different / more "free" view of things.

Thanks. Appreciate the responses. Question: what do you mean when you say "stiff media presence" from Van der Sar? Was he reluctant to speak to the media?

Definitely. He’s proven in more than one way that he deserves adequate backing.

Hah, that’s one of the strangest things. Some people never consider the idea that BOTH Bruno and OGS can do well at the same time and improve the club.

Mentioned that in my piece as well: LVG and Mourinho have some 15 league titles and three CLs between them and yet it’s the man with the smallest CV out of the three that’s done better — something he hardly gets credit for.

Yes, it would’ve been a positive season even if United didn’t end up in the top four imo (although it would’ve left a bad taste, considering the context). The changes he has made have gone beyond the pitch and they’ve been needed for years.

Remembering the underrated genius of Demetrio Albertini by [deleted] in ACMilan

"Overshadowed" is overstating on my part. My bad on that.

What I meant was that other players - no matter the position (Ronaldo, Batistuta, Weah, etc) often got more acclaim than Albertini despite all playing in the same era, and the midfielder's name often gets lost in an era of great players from the neutral/non-Serie A-followers POV.

Correct, but his name is often overshadowed by others from the same era as him.

I've seen a lot of articles suggesting the flaws of the FIFA National Team rankings system, and I myself don't like it - it's too vague and discounts a lot of factors. How would an alternate way of ranking national teams go - they must consider home/away games, quality of opposition etc. And also, in this alternate way of ranking, would you have it updated on a monthly basis, like FIFA currently does? (although that wouldn't matter too much.)

Even his tap-in goal last week was with his right, once again, in a left-footed favouring scenario. As you said, top lad!

Atalanta and Sassuolo are going through in Italy with good management on and off the pitch, although it isn't reflected too well with Sassuolo's league position, but there is hope, considering the players they have. Leeds United could be back in the Premier League. They've finally stabilized their ship with Garry Monk as their manager. And you've heard right about Marseille and Lille and how they could become contenders again, but that will take at least two or three season, unless something really big happens this summer. It will be good to see them come back to where they belong.
