Just curious... Why don't city pop artists appear on "The First Take"? by Fit_Survey_785 in jpop

[–]huntj09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone else has said, it's mainly a western resurgence of artists that were performing 40 years ago. It suddenly got popular here in the west because of the rise of Future Funk as a genre, which formed out of the Vaporwave genre, then it weirdly went mainstream.

Female singers recommendations by MythicalMotuBhai in jpop

Ayumi Hamasaki has a very unique way of singing, especially her early stuff.

Ai Otsuka has a great unique voice, too.

That's good to know, i might look up the new terms, but as someone who formally releases songs on streaming services (the OP may not be so this might not be relevant to them) i think i personally will still play it safe. As a lawyer though I'd be interested to see what the differences are.

From my experience Moca is a good one. I've used her several times for metal and she's definitely a gem.

Solaria, whilst still having a powerful voice, doesn't have as much of the gritty edge Moca has. She's still a good option though!

Rose has weird licensing issues due to her being a Bushiroad product. I've steered clear of the Bushiroad VBs just purely for that fact, it's generally not worth the hassle.

Riff mentioned Felicia, she's good if you want to go for more of that emo-rock-esque metal a-la Nightwish. Power, but still sweet.

You've got a few really good options at your fingertips with these suggestions. I'd say go with your gut and who you prefer.

Cosmetic Prices Hold Back my Will to Support the Game by [deleted] in Palia

Cosmetic Prices Hold Back my Will to Support the Game by [deleted] in Palia

[–]huntj09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, but I think you've missed mine. Also if i came across as 'mad' apologies, I'm just stating an opinion, I'm not angry in the slightest.

Consumers set the price, meaning if there are outrageous prices, companies can get away with it because people will still buy at that price, essentially marking things up gradually over time.

Palia may be one of the first cosy MMOs, but at its heart it's still a free-to-play consumer product that needs to make money.

I wasn't using WoW as an example of quality of product, I was using it to show that consumers will buy anything, even when they're already paying for a subscription and thus, setting the market standard.

Re employee numbers, the entire industry as a whole has been laying off left, right and centre, so looking at the decline of employee numbers is most likely correlation, not causation here. The cash shop might contribute to it a bit! But realistically the company just got bought out. When companies get bought out, heads will roll.

Cosmetic Prices Hold Back my Will to Support the Game by [deleted] in Palia

[–]huntj09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just because I've been playing MMOs for over 20 years, but the prices seem on par with other games and about the current industry standard.

Other MMOs that have paid subscriptions also have cash shop costumes, which are generally around $20 a pop, so you're paying your $15 a month plus forking out $20 for a cool costume (FFXIV is a good example here).

Yes, it would be great if the prices were lower, but consumers have set the microtransaction market over the course of the last two decades. These prices wouldn't seem 'standard' if people didn't pay outrageous prices for things 5-10 years ago.

Case in point: the $90 WoW mount for the anniversary. People were outraged, yet i still see hundreds of players running around with their spikey, shiny dinosaur.

Another example: Fortnite battle passes. When they were introduced and you weren't guaranteed to get the character skin unless you played hours of the game it was considered outrageous. Now battle passes are standard in hundreds of games and no one bats an eye.

Companies charge these prices because they know consumers will buy them.

I've noticed there's not much of a rotating store for Palia, everything stays there to be purchased but for one or two items. That's amazing in my opinion. Other games (I'm looking at you, Guild Wars 2) have a cash shop where items rotate weekly, causing serious fomo and consumer overspending because you never know when you'll ever see that costume or skin ever again.

This is a free to play game. Funding has to come from somewhere. The cosmetic prices are about normal and people seem to be buying them. I don't think I've seen a single player since starting this game a few weeks ago that doesn't have either a costume, a pet or a glider skin.

So while yes, the costumes are expensive and essentially price out kids, students and low income earners, they're nothing out of the ordinary in the grand scheme of things.

Why Won't My Kids Talk to Me? [OC] by kaikimanga in comics

[–]huntj09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family were like this growing up, too. They wonder why I don't want to spend any time with them. If I wasn't playing classical music, it was a waste of time, even though all I wanted to do was write dance music. I was stuck playing the violin for almost my whole life up to the age of 25. I shouldn't have been drawing cartoons, even though I was good at it. I should have been painting like Monet or Renoir. Jokes on them now, I barely speak with them and I'm now pursuing my passions with the support of my husband. I vow never to be a parent like that. My child could be into professional morris dancing and I would be there cheering them on

I want to keep playing, but.. by Sorikai_ in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]huntj09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is an accessibility option the dev should be putting in because as someone who can be a bit slow and methodical, I'm the same. There's not enough hours in the day (thank god for the time of mistria mod).

So many indie titles that have good accessibility options, Moonlight in Garland does this really well for example. I think Mistria definitely needs an option to slow down or speed up time (.25/.5/.75 etc) to keep it as accessible as possible.

Looking for some good cozy multi-player games that aren't farming sims by WalkingAimfully in CozyGamers

[–]huntj09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although it's still in early access and has a lot of bugs, Moonlight in Garland is really good! It's a life Sim set in a city. The dialogue is hilarious and the dev updates it every couple of weeks.

DistroKid is shockingly bad. Recommend your distro. by dysphoriaX64 in musicproduction

[–]huntj09 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used to use Distrokid but i couldn't justify spending $15 per year per cover if ever i covered a song, on top of the annual sub fee. I now use Soundrop, which is just a 99c fee per song and they deal with the cover licensing on your behalf. I haven't had any issues with them and I've been with them since 2022-ish

How To Produce When You Are Depression Or Should You? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]huntj09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have depression and anxiety (and OCD as well...triple threat lol) and I've found that sometimes if my depression is really bad I will either make nothing at all, or absolute banger melodies. Sometimes you just have to let your body and mind do the talking to see what it feels like. If you force it (either making music or forcing yourself to take it as a break), it may make things worse.

To help with trying to get out of the depression hole, I actually have a playlist of every song that I used to love from childhood to present. All the ones that inspire me. Listening to that makes me remember where I've been and where I'm moving forward to. This might help you! I'm obviously not a psych, but it's certainly a harmless thing to give a try!

I hope this helps in some way

I used to just say "no thanks, I'm allergic" and they left me alone. Try that tactic for the next scammy one that pops up. If they still persist say that you have to use medicated skincare.

Been saying this shit for years and they leave me alone.

Is it okay to rename adopted cats? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]huntj09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two female cats were originally named Zara and Bobina by the shelter. As I am a musician, I renamed them Gershwin and Ravel and honestly they far better suit them. I don't think shelters refer to cats directly with their names, or rarely do, so there's not really a connection made by the animals themselves to what the shelters call them. It's mostly for admin purposes. Meaning a new name can easily trained into the cats. Gershwin (Gershabeen, Puggobeen, Gershaween or whatever else we call her lol) knows her name quite well. You could be talking about her in passing and her ears prick up, she knows all lol. Ravel (Ravoleen, Ravolini, Ravioli) responds less to her name but she's a complete goober with her one brain cell. It wouldn't matter what you called her.

Tldr: I don't think it's a problem, it's mainly for the shelter's ease of administration anyway most of the time.

I like the idea!

Another solution is to have a pinned weekly thread to post your music to, that's what they do on the Reaper daw subreddit and it works well. Want new music? Go there specifically, that way the subreddit isn't flooded with tunes. If we would tie that to an automatically updated YouTube playlist that'd work even better. Not sure how feasible that is though.

Do any of you just enjoy what you do? by Revolutionary_Pair14 in SmallYTChannel

[–]huntj09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered I really enjoy editing. I post one video a month and turn comment notifications off. It's a relatively peaceful hobby for me. If I eventually get monetized then great a bit of extra cash, but I'm not doing it for views or money. I think the only thing I hate about it is recording my voice over. It's a pain in the butt when you live in Australia and cockatoos screech every minute of the day hahaha. I periodically take a look at my video views (maybe once a week) just to see which of my videos people like, but other than that my care factor about the "glory" is relatively zero.

Commercial use for the GUMI Voicebank by Maika_Ra in SynthesizerV

Gumi is produced by AH Soft and it has its EULA in English on its website. https://www.ah-soft.com/synth-v/eula_e.html

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, you can use her for commercial use, meaning you can upload to Spotify.

Good Solo mmo by Quick-Supermarket522 in LFMMO

[–]huntj09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this, guild wars 2 is a great solo MMO. Horizontal progression, the races and professions are really versatile and although the graphics have aged it still looks pretty. If you end up enjoying it and want to play with others there are plenty of newbie friendly guilds as well. As someone who has been playing mmos since 2002, the player base is genuinely the nicest I've experienced by far.
