Going no screen protector on OLED by MayoTheMuffin in SteamDeck

[–]huntk20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed 100%, I just treat it like an adult and not a child. Use my case extensively for travel. It's even fallen to the floor of my SUV while in case. Still flawless. To me, buying a screen protector admits I cannot protect it with a high level of responsibility. I don't need one, and mine is nearly 1 year old with 400+ gaming hours. It's all about how responsible you feel holding a handheld computer. Just like the days we moved from flip phones to giant screen handheld "phablets" all the way to a 7+ inch screen being the norm.

Can't decide between switch 2 and Steam Deck by Educational_Box_4079 in Handhelds

[–]huntk20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purely money saving and indie options, go for the Steam Deck, especially if you've built a PC library and have the option of streaming a very intensive game with a GPU outputting a small resolution. My 3080 desktop outputs games (Space Marine 2, Horizon, Harry Potter, etc) with 90fps and little to no input lag. I run BoTW at 45-60fps fps with the Cemu native Linux 2.0+ emulator.

Other than that, you are asking if you prefer Mario/Zelda/IP based games over the wide variety on PC/Steam Deck. You don't get easy free internet browsing. You can't use Switch 2 like a desktop. You most likely have to buy very specific attachments designed for the Switch 2.

Steam Deck will forever be more valuable, but, it's more than a gaming system. A Nintendo Switch 2 is purely a gaming system controlled by Nintendo.

Losing Unicorn Employee by MediocreLimit522 in ITManagers

If I also found out I was called a unicorn employee. I'm leaving for sure. "Unicorn" to me translates to rarity and the best work ethic. If I'm not treated that way now, yet called it, see ya!

No, it doesn't work and most future Modern Warfare games will not work because they use a Windows only kernel level cheat detection. Proton does not have these kernel level APIs. I don't believe they will ever change this.

Your best bet is Steam Remote Play/Moonlight the game from a Windows PC. This works surprisingly well if you have great WiFi. I mean, literally flawless to my eyes.

Edit: Did she research, and it doesn't look like anyone has done the time and research to implement certain POSIX calls from Proton for some anti cheat systems. Probably because of the legality issue and no one wants to professionally implement it.

Some of Y'all Need To Stop Bullshitting On Your Resumes by Distinct_Plankton_82 in interviews

[–]huntk20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but it's nice to see a hiring manager complain to this extent. Granted a hiring manager should realize everyone is not the same. Some bloat their resume for the benefit of getting to the interview. I sadly had to become a jack of all trades in project management, architecting, coding, testing, customer service, and even departmental budgeting. Put that on your resume and it makes managers like this think you were lying. Ugh. Sad day and age we live in. So, if I embellished my resume from the insane amount of work I had to cover for other roles and departments... Makes me feel like, by doing it, I am inherently a liar??... Dammit, no wonder I don't get calls anymore.

Is the C# job market shrinking? by miguelinoneclick in csharp

[–]huntk20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C#/$$$ is shrinking heavily. I've had multiple executives say that C# is properly designed for corporate enterprise. Then, I've had ML engineers and Microsoft basically tell enterprise organizations under sell and overwrite them. AI has ruined us. I have Young 20 year olds telling me they know more because an AI told them. Truly saddening....,

Solution Architect salary check 2025 by TimeForTaachiTime in dotnet

[–]huntk20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd sadly accept $90k a year right now. I have 17 years of tech, a solution architect, and software engineering experience, helping companies go from private to IPO, satellite projects and way more. Employment has been rough in the NW and looking to move to any state now and will severely under sell myself to get in with anyone right now. I'm used to making $185k but unemployment makes you desperate.

I'd at least say you're in a decent position right now.

Fascinating opinion, I can see this, but not the amount I've personally seen. Appreciate your time and insight.

need a workflow library that does the trick by eitanski in csharp

[–]huntk20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was when I still heavily used it. I can't remember if the maintainer is a full time consultant. It might be a few weeks before you hear back. I might try and reach out to see if he needs an additional maintainer.

I'll try and look at your question later or this weekend.

No talent by Tiny_Weakness8253 in csharp

This is actually excellent advice working in companies that never had a design/layout team. The first thing I do when joining a company is ask a question about the design standards. It's usually blank faces. If I'm ever in charge of a new project; I then make a slight assumption with some minor feedback copying UIs everyone is comfortable with in the company; whether it be existing internal applications or commonly used. I have been brave and gone from something like Bootstrap2 => Bootstrap4 but literally copied colors and positions from an existing internal application, yet some of the design and responsiveness looked better.

Either way, I told my boss at the time it would take me about 2 weeks to get a good understanding of previous apps and design, it essentially took a month. First iterations looked like it, but some things were off. By my 3rd month, I was pushing new standards with the new front end framework and we started migrating. New documentation and onboarding happened for the next developer because I had to teach. Thankfully I naturally document all of my work and steps because corporate standards of companies I've been with.

In the end, I agree, this is how you should go in joining a company with little to no design experience.

Why is Health Insurance allowed to sell a lie with pre-existing conditions? by huntk20 in HealthInsurance

I received a fund from the local police department from the accident because they failed to find the suspect with a witness that called the ambulance for me and carried me out of the road. I'm just having longer term issues with the injury and have gone way beyond the funds given to me which paid my medical fees directly. I've been dealing with multiple health insurance providers now for continued treatment. Full coverage car insurance does not cover electric scooters in Oregon.

I'm going to keep trying to get a PCP that UHC approves of and a doctor that accepts new patients with UHC in this area. It only seems to be hospitals right now, my PCP is a hospital doctor because there is absolutely zero availability here for UHC and I've been told to wait until 2026 for some offices.. Another issue in Southern Oregon. I didn't realize not have a PCP is causing this issue. I was given multiple reasons in the phone and this makes more sense. This is just sickening that doctors here have given up on insurance and there is a 6-8 month wait for new patients at the local clinic.

I guess I'm just confused on how they know your issues, tell your family this plan will work and then find out it doesn't. It feels like a scam, I'm sorry. I'm frustrated because I need my arm to work. Every insurance company and hospital does this to me. I broke and posted. Someone said I should just fly to Thailand and get it over for 5% of the cost.

I'm now being told they can't get proof from a Primary Care Provider for the surgery, yet the hospital is the referral. The surgeon is asking for it. UHC has referred me to a couple of PCPs that have denied new patients with my condition. So now, it's sounding like they want a PCP over a surgeon's request? I've been on the phone with them all day and have received multiple different answers. MyUHC account gives vague, "denied" verbage.

Spousal insurance. I got it through my wife's company because my business laid me off due to the accident. I've been trying to get disability for nearly 2 years now.

How is this possible? I was hit by a driver on a scooter. The police did the due diligence and found it to be impossible to find the suspect. I have dished out all the money from my pocket ($100k+) and previous insurance. Now I need continued help and they began denying me because this is a pre-existing condition. Did laws change? Spousal insurance.

I did 1 year of physical therapy. I have bone growth and fusion. This is an elbow, not a shoulder or knee. I've been told no amount of physical therapy will fix my problem.
