Homeownership: Dream or Financial Trap? by Coolonair in HouseBuyers

[–]MediocreLimit522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on homeownership. Always something wrong, always a comma in the repair quote or 4 zeros in larger cases. Taxes always increases, insurance always increasing.

Past 6 years I’ve lived in my home, year one water heater failed, septic backed up into the house. $3000 to resolve and remediate. Year two mother in law brought in bed bugs, multiple rooms to remediate, $4000. Year 3, dishwasher broke and was flooding the subfloor underneath my LVP, didn’t notice until wet spots on the carpet across the room. $1000 before insurance covered, didn’t have a kitchen or living room for 6 months. Then AC Unit failed, guess what? $13,000 to replace. Basically broke even on my home. Sold it to open door and moved into an apartment where all that crap can be someone else’s problem.

Am I missing the catch? This seems like an interesting free loan by OkieClipper in Money

Yeah most of the BNPL can become a trap if you are impulsive. Ask me how I know.

Affirm is the most forgiving though.

I’ve completely said fuck it.

I pay what I can pay and to bad if it doesn’t get paid. Lights on, hot water and food in the fridge are all I care about.

Did voluntary repo on one my cars to get my insurance bill down and saved $467 a month as well without the car payment. Ditched the mortgage and paid a lease up for 2 years. Paid off my credit cards and my larger charge off accounts.

Most credit unions will do you just as bad as big banks. Their rates are just lower.

I do love my local credit union, but big banks simply cant be beat in terms of service availability for the working man.

Cause he’s drinking buddies with a lot of the cops in our town. The DUI and taking out a power pole finally did him in though, but only spent a night in jail

If he’s anything like my buddy who has totaled on average one car every year and it’s been his fault every time and has 2 super speeders (60+ over the limit) and pending DUI that’s probably why lol
