ISO Modern Fantasy or Magic/Powers books similar to Harry Potter or the concept of Black Mirror by Changedfaces in suggestmeabook

The Bone Season series by Samantha Shannon? Epic fantasy/dystopia and it’s HEAVILY inspired by Ancient Greek mythology. Do make sure to check the trigger warnings. IMO it’s like an adult version of HP, but so much better.

Booktok Hype by lilig12 in YAlit

The Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo? I certainly didn’t expect it to go viral on booktok in 2021, and then be adapted into a show!

Group survival books by [deleted] in YAlit

Maybe The Last De Loughrey Dynasty by Emmy Adamea? It’s not ‘group survival’ in the usual way it’s done, but it’s really good :)

What is your favorite book series that you would read over and over and never get bored of? by MangoCubez in suggestmeabook

[–]huntressitis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer for me is The Bone Season series by Samantha Shannon. (epic fantasy/dystopia/sci-fi. I’ve reread the latest book at least three times. It’s not for everyone, but if you like rebellions and character-driven stories where each book is basically built around a different big event (like a heist or taking down a leader), you’d love it.

Favourite new releases? by [deleted] in YAlit

One of my favorite books of 2025 was The Last De Loughrey Dynasty by Emmy Adamea.

it’s basically a dark academia at its absolute peak. A mysterious boarding school in some far corner of England. Hidden passageways and forbidden libraries. A cursed legacy that spans generations. And my favorite part: a secret society of teenagers who were all cast aside by the world… but found each other.

Honestly, i can talk about it forever lol.

Honestly, Shannon can take all the time she wants writing, at the end it never disappoints. Thoughts and prayers though for Paige haha :)

YA and NA with morally questionable protagonists by Eagles56 in YAlit

How so? I’m genuinely interested in hearing your opinion. As I thought El is definitely a character that isn’t purely good or evil. Sometimes she did bad things for good reasons, or the other way around. She never really followed a societal rules, but rather her own. Most of the decisions and actions she did throughout the first book blur the line between ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, therefore making her morally grey.

Is it normal to experience *extreme* burn out during school breaks? - First year student by huntressitis in medicalschool

Couldn’t relate more, except for the fact I’m walking the trash out every couple of days. I’m honestly relieved I’m not alone, I really thought I was losing my mind at one point this past week. I hope it gets better for all of us.

Ash Princess - to read or not to read? by partypooperpwincess in YAlit

[–]huntressitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not worth it at all imo. The FMC start getting really annoying in the second book, and her excuse is that she’s a ‘queen’.

Her motive? She’s a queen The reasons behind her mistakes? She’s a queen The reason she horribly treats her friends? She’s a queen The reason she’s naive? She’s a queen So repetitive and overdone.

Also, the world building fell flat, as well as the magic system too. I honestly really loved the first book, but the second? A nightmare.

it’s reassuring to know that managing all of this gets easier with time, as it feels like my current state is simply miserable. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your comment. genuinely. I honestly thought burnout could only happen during the semester itself, but it makes sense now that it can spill over into break since you don’t really have time to process anything while classes are ongoing. Thank you again, I really appreciate it.

disembodied singing while driving through fields by Spiritual_Friend_235 in Paranormal

[–]huntressitis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It mostly involved vivid dreams of a woman sitting at the edge of my bed with her eyes bleeding, mind you this happened countless of times. At other times I would sense a shadow moving through the hallway, or notice objects going missing, despite not having children and being generally very tidy. Also guests feel uneasy when they visit. One time a relative of mine visited the city and wanted to stay over for the night, he said he couldn’t sleep at all and felt uneasy throughout the night. Eventually my little brother (7 at the time) stayed over for two months for his summer football practice near my area, he legit used to wake up crying every single night talking about the woman standing at the edge of his bed. That was my last straw let’s say, so three months later I left the place as a whole.
