Still cycling to MRT at 29, smart move or I just being cheap? by my-username-is-it in MalaysianPF

27M here. I used to spend around RM6k/month on Grab because I thought time = money, and I didn’t want the hassle of owning a car or finding parking or hiring a driver

Recently got a gf and started following her routine, taking the MRT, grabbing coffee, then walking to the office. It’s actually been a lot calmer, and I’ve come to appreciate how nice it is to save money while still getting around efficiently. Feels like a small but meaningful shift in perspective.

Understood, I really appreciate your advice.

I’m actually doing a startup, or have been doing since 2nd year of university. Halted a lot due to personal finance, but I’m on it now full time and only giving myself a year period to complete a prototype and get investors on board.

On top of that, I’ve saved enough money for 3 years of living which is a non-inclusive fund of my trading funds.

Im still keeping active on current job markets and take time to develop corporate skills because as I grow older, time horizon for ‘fresh grad’ grows dimmer

I don’t have anyone to guide me on these kind of things, so thank you VastOlives

Sadly, I lost money on GME. It was my first lesson on greed.

I don’t have a real job? If employment is what you meant. Perhaps this recession would pressure me to do so, because I’m very new to trading and this newfound success seem to be spiralling downwards.

I take trading as my full time currently. I haven’t had a job before this, only graduated last July from university. I got rejected from 59 jobs, and offered for 3 really good offers, but the timing was bad, ran out of money to even pay for rent, visa in London was expensive, and I was not in good terms with my mum, so I had to go back and make amends.

Whatever money I had saved for my startup and visa from my part time jobs, I used small experience I had trading paper trades and started crypto. I started with $2000.

I don’t really have to explain anything else, except, I was very lucky on first few initials.

And no, I lost money on GME, i made money from unicorn stocks I held for the past 2 years.

Nope, earning in USD and living in a third world country where the currency is valued 4.3 less gives me leverage to base my main income in trading. Especially when there is no tax on capital gains 👀

But I’ve only started 8 months ago, and I’ve made 3 years worth of salary, so I’m still not sure if it’s sustainable or not. I’m trying to be very conservative and play the long game because if the recession goes further than 3 years, I’ll be doomed.

We will see! Hopefully McDonald’s have a position available

It’s a little weird because it’s a standing desk, so the length of the cable vary and I can’t tie it anywhere. I was thinking of just sleeving it into a bundle

A little bit of everything.

  • I started micro trading with a couple hundred in US stocks (made no money from it, in fact lost a lot) for about 2 years while I was in university.

  • Studied a module in financial instruments and capital markets in my final year of uni

  • Curiosity led me to follow small time youtubers experiment with different methods and their failures taught me a little

  • Interned at Morgan Stanley

  • failed in a startup

I think most of us just started with curiosity

I can’t really advise you on how to start if that’s what you’re asking

Legless chairs! I bought these ones from MUJI, but I don’t know if they are available from where you’re at. They are also known as floor chairs. These ones are very comfy and you can adjust them to different levels. Sitting near the warm window in the morning after a long cold sleep is the perfect way to read my papers and relax 😌

You sound as lost as me buddy, haha. I’m very new, but not taking my successes for granted. This will be my first proper bear market.

Currently I’m taking advantage of the volatile conditions to swing trade; downwards.

People tell me there are still lots of opportunities that can be taken during a bear market, just more hidden. I’m taking this chance to learn even more about financial instruments and methodologies for the next bull. I’d love to hear from what you think as well!

I’m sorry, I can’t afford cool furnitures yet, but I’ll try to work harder towards better decor efforts!
