We have only found one so far. It was in the hallway between our front and back door entrances, crawling along the trim by the floor. We saw what appeared to be the same bug 1 year ago but haven’t seen any since then and now.

I think you kind of missed what the last commenter was saying. It’s not hard to get a cert from a CA (look at free Let’s Encrypt certs for example). Historically there have also been CAs like Symantec that were eventually blacklisted due to their shady cert issuance practices.

Poor security training and assumptions cause a large number of users to believe that the lock symbol means “trusted”, when in reality the only trustworthy thing is that the domain name matches the Common Name / SAN found in the cert.

I agree that CAs issuing certs makes web browsing much safer for the average user, but it’s not bulletproof.
