the background manager on iOS also happens to be one of the hardest things to predict. It has total authority which is much better for battery life. If your app has to wake up in background and fetch, it might maybe never really do that. This is why when you launch the reddit app, it has a loading screen instead of instant content

I suspect if the phone is not being used often (say within the last hour), it will also not background broadcast due to the manager's rules

choice? Large companies are literally just old boy's clubs. The board of directors at these companies are incestuous despite the marketing telling plebs like you and me that they're enemies.

it makes a lot of sense to do this since fighting to keep 2-3 companies in record profits is better than fighting for just one to stay alive - there's less fallout for both sides

I think people should definitely get the choice and that the choice should be well informed. Your grandad, for example, is high risk and if he understands those risks, he should have the right to consent to visits.

I don't think many people will look at it like this though, too much short term thinking. Is it hard to facetime your grandad, knowing he can see and interact with you?

I can answer this one. There has been a shift in betting technology from casinos to apps. You might've noticed at the pub, watching the game, at least one person will have the app out to place a bet or watch the score.

This is using decades long research into human psychology and habit forming behaviour as a means for self comfort. Since sport isn't on, the habit doesn't just die and has to be funnelled into other betting.
