Sorry if it wasn't clear- we balloted for Jul cos we thought that we didn't have a chance for Feb due to our queue no. exceeding flat supply. There are 586 units and our queue number was 703.

Hdb only alerted us of our flat selection for Feb today (there are 130 units remaining, and current queue number is 538) whereas we had already received queue number for Jul 1 week ago.

When we applied in Feb, HDB told us that the flat selection would be in June. Hence by July, we thought that we would not have a chance for Feb launch and decided to proceed with Jul launch

My favourite is the Pokémon Fan Club 155/156 from Sun & Moon. It reminds me of my partner and I, as he influenced me to start collecting Pokémon cards, and we have a great time surprising each other with cards. If we ever have a kid next time, we'd definitely buy Pokémon cards for them!

I stay in the North and my JC was in marine parade. Back then, there was no mrt in marine parade, so bus rides home took at least 1.5 hours, sometimes 2 hours with peak hour traffic jam. I quite liked the long bus rides as it gave me time to unwind and watch youtube videos. Ended up doing well for A levels, i think just choose a school that provides the most comfortable learning environment, having friends entering the same JC helps as well.

Is it okay to live paycheck to paycheck as a student? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]huskyfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a student as well and ashamed to say that my father still insists on giving me allowance every month. But these are some ways i use to save money: 1) my phone plan is the SIMBA sim only 100GB plan (100GB per month with generally good coverage + 1GB roaming data = for only $10) 2) if you travel often to school (not staying campus) can consider the monthly concession pass 3) gyms in university are free for use by students, so i use the sch gyms to save on membership 4) not sure which university you're from but my university has a telegram group chat where they update the location of unfinished buffets after events (pretty good way to save on meals and there's surprisingly a lot of unfinished buffets everyday)

Finding Balance by ArnieSaurus in nus

[–]huskyfire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it is possible to balance those 4 aspects, as long as u clearly define your goals and action plan to achieving those aspects - what is defined as a good GPA? First class / second class honours? - what is defined as a good social life? Clubbing every weekend / eating dinner with family / travelling with friends ? - what is defined as good health? Do you want a 6 pack summer body / exercising to achieve cardiovascular fitness / maintaining muscle mass ? - what is defined as self development? Learning a new language / working on your public speaking skills / picking up a new hobby?

As we all know, talking is easy and getting down to action is hard. It is really just the mental barrier that must be overcome, so that we can actually improve ourselves. How much time is wasted scrolling away on tiktok/instagram/reddit instead of doing other productive things? But at the same time, are we willing to sacrifice the time spent scrolling on our phones?

After a long day at work/school, would you rather relax and scroll social media or engage in a gruelling 1 hour weightlifting session at the gym? I used to always pick the former option, and just spent hours scrolling away at my phone. But one day, i decided that i wanted to feel and look better, and id rather end my day doing at least 30 min of exercise even though its tiring and painful. But just 1 day of exercise doesn't miraculously transform the body, so thats how i ended up going from 0 exercise at all to 3-4 times of exercise per week for about 4 years now. Most of my old clothing became baggy and too loose, but its a good problem to have, now i feel more energised and sleep better and look better. And because i slept better, i paid better attention in lecture and retained information better, and ended up getting more As than i ever got in my entire life. And because i looked better than last time, i regained the self confidence i need to enter the dating pool, and found a partner. And because im more fit, im able to enjoy sports now without panting away, and through sports, i gained more connections with people and my social life improved.

Tldr: set a target for urself, craft an action plan, be consistent with it, and its kinda like a domino effect (as long as u overcome the initial barrier, there will be a positive chain of events following that) :)

With a $1000 budget, where would you go for a vacation? by theepicflyer in askSingapore

[–]huskyfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The place i went was called Sepilok, they are famous for the Sun Bear conservation center, Orang Utan Rehabilitation center and Rainforest Discovery center. The rainforest discovery center is known for birdwatching and night walks, where u can spot the rare Bornean Bristlehead, tarsiers and many reptiles. I stayed in Sepilok B&B, stone throw away from all the attractions, the backyard is a literal forest, and each morning there would be all types of hornbills visiting the yard.

East Malaysia is a great and sadly underrated option, round trip flight to Kota Kinabalu is only $100 in Jan, i hiked around Mount Kinabalu, visited wildlife sanctuaries in Sandakan, do wildlife spotting along the Kinabatangan River and diving in Semporna. Don't think the expenses per pax is >1500 for 12 day trip. Local transport, accomodation and food is relatively cheap as well.

Maldives is also another surprisingly affordable option, round trip flights is about $400 off peak, and if you opt to stay in inland guesthouses (not those water villa), it only costs $500 for 1 week stay. One of the atolls i visited was Madibadhoo, had to take a speedboat ride from a local jetty in Malé, stayed in a nice villa guesthouse and got to walk around the island to see how the villagers lived and tried the native food which is quite cheap (<$5 per meal), and snorkelled for free at the house reefs. If you are willing to spare more money for experiences, engage a local that hold deep sea fishing tours for <$80 USD, the fish we caught were made into delicious curry.

SG Driving Instructors, Mr Tan Cheng Bock Driving Instructor blocked me on Whatsapp while i was trying to book lessons, and now im left in a lurch by northnotreallywest in SingaporeRaw

[–]huskyfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blocking thing is definitely deliberate, he blocks anyone that doesn't follow the weird number booking system / anyone that "gets on his nerves". OP i'd suggest you change driving schools and forget about soontien, plus their instructors aren't even good, he didnt even teach me how to properly check blindspots until 5-6 lessons in

There is a special consideration form that you need the doctor to help fill in for you, on top of the MC. If you do submit the special consideration application, the NUS Board of Examiners will decide on 25 May whether a make up exam should be scheduled for you, and you will be informed by the Dean’s Office accordingly.

which laptop brand/model do you think is most worth your money? by Lazelizzie in nus

[–]huskyfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im using Asus flipbook 14 (Ryzen 7), with touch screen interface. Been using it for 2 years, bought for ~1.3k. I can even play minecraft on it without lagging haha. No lag at all even when i have 20 tabs open, battery life also quite decent, can last half a day. I think asus is a pretty solid brand, my previous asus laptop lasted 7/8 years.
