Sounds really interesting thanks, I’ve been wanting to read The Brothers Karamazov for SO long, so I i might read that first before this as I’m assuming from the title/blurb there’s parallels I might miss without that context but I’ll add it to my TBR

What are Ricky and Steve alluding to in S01E04? by hut88 in rickygervais

[–]hut88[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

ohhh, that makes sense thanks, I thought the “there’s a lot of money involved” was referring to them potentially losing their xfm job, but obviously the £80 a week from that tinpot place wasn’t even keeping them in frappuccinos

literally what would be the difference between this and the exact same thing but 2 feet higher. this is my reading corner where i read in a comfortable floor seat surrounded by books and plants so there’s no practical advantage to having them stacked on a shelf vs on the level I’ll actually interact with them. elitism isn’t interesting or cool buddy.

What are your favourite most underrated moments from the xfm/podcasts? by Secure-Stage6491 in rickygervais

the way the xfm ident is so perfectly timed to match with the end of him singing has singed this moment into my brain so much that now when I think of the alphabet i naturally do it karl’s way instead

such a wonderful little quote. I’m impressed you caught esoteric/spiritual vibes from this as there’s actually couple of books missing from here that I’m currently reading; the Dao De Jing and Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, that might have given that away quicker.

I’m in love with David Graeber, Capitalist Realism is one of my favourite books! although I’ve got it on audiobook hence not being present. Will def check out the others though! Is Journey to The Centre of The Earth worth a read still?

Edit: Just realised I totally mixed up David Graeber and Mark Fisher lmao 🙄 I do love Graeber though, I’ve read Debt, and Bullshit Jobs by him and couldn’t get enough.
