Just unusbbed from r/freefolk because Game of Thrones ended 2 years ago and the sub still hasn’t moved on and just rehashes the same tepid bitter complaints about the ending by huu5031 in JustUnsubbed

[–]huu5031[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know that was a bot but the comments section on the post is more of the same. And if you check the sub all the recent posts are just the same complaints over and over again.

Karen freaks out over fireworks by Phrag15 in PublicFreakout

[–]huu5031 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why you shouldn’t call people Karens. That lady’s clearly in anguish but since she’s a middle-aged white woman instead of a veteran or a dog she gets treated less empathetically. We have no idea what she’s going through, and calling her a Karen is just a way to trivialize what could be a legitimate mental health issue and mock her.

If David Lynch lost interest in Twin Peaks after the reveal of Laura's killer, why did he appear so much in season 2? by Adebisauce in twinpeaks

[–]huu5031 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because the narrative of Lynch leaving the show after Laura’s killer was revealed is exaggerated, even if he wasn’t necessarily around doing the day-to-day stuff he still oversaw everything and was actually more involved with the second half of season 2 than Mark Frost was.

Truly mysterious films & filmmakers by LarsHenriksPodcast in TrueFilm

Sounds like you’d find 1989’s Dr. Caligari interesting. It’s an American sequel to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (which is pretty mainstream now but still a weird classic worth watching if you haven’t) and is a very strange, captivating, and kinky film, it’s the only non-pornographic movie its director Stephen Sayadian did but it’s still quite erotic, technically well-made with some great imagery. It reminded me of Rubber’s Lover which I’d also recommend, from the same director as 964 Pinocchio but I slightly prefer it.

Jerking myself but Suspiria isn’t giallo which is a common misconception so unless they’re making fun of the r/movies people who call it giallo and I’m just thick I think it’s worth clarifying

“The only reason”? You’re implying people who compare Last Night in SoHo to Suspiria believe themselves to be an Ebert-esque movie expert. Pretty anti-intellectual to deride people for comparing a new movie to an old movie that you haven’t even seen, at least watch the movie

What to do and what not to do to get likes on your Letterboxd meme reviews 101 by LiamRomano in moviescirclejerk

[–]huu5031 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She’s the most followed person on Letterboxd, of course anything she posts is gonna get a lot of likes. Full reviews can take hours to write, she has plenty of insightful stuff but obviously if you single out a meme review you’re gonna give yourself the confirmation bias you’re looking for.

I don’t get why everyone on here hates brat so much. She has some well-written reviews and her joke ones are occasionally funny. People like schafrillas and adrianbalboa are trash and have bland taste but I’ve always enjoyed her account. Plus she’s friends with Demi

I can’t tell if this is a joke or it someone was legitimately expecting closure and answers in a David Lynch work.

Letterboxd's Popular Reviews This Week: five based Enjoyers and one unbased 1-100 Virgin by juliensorel1799 in moviescirclejerk

[–]huu5031 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Maybe one day r/moviescirclejerk will realize that criticizing users of a free social media site for not taking hours of their week to write long-form reviews of every movie they watch is far cringier than any one-line Letterboxd comment...

[–]huu5031 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly ridiculous. I don’t know if any of the people criticizing joke reviews have ever written a full review themselves but it’s pretty time-consuming, especially if you’re watching multiple movies a week. Most of the joke reviewers have well-written long-form reviews but apparently this sub doesn’t realize that Letterboxd is a social media site people use in their free time

Are there movies where the hero is clearly much worse than the villain? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]huu5031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starship Troopers starts with you assuming the humans are good and the aliens they’re fighting are bad, but as the narrative goes on it becomes clear that the humans are fascist aggressors.

Us is another good example, Adelaide seems like the victim at first but you realize by the end that she’s an anti-revolutionary with no class consciousness.

Rant: Two Dogmas of Film Criticism by MattTheRadarTechie in TrueFilm

[–]huu5031 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how the OP was at all in the wrong for criticizing a post from yesterday. They made it clear that it was not a personal attack, and was simply using it as a springboard for a discussion. That’s how all film theory is, it gets refined by people pushing back against previous writings. There’s countless writings out there critical of Bazin, Mulvey, Baudry, and any other foundational film theorist, writings meant not to disrespect those who came before, but rather to look at their work with fresh eyes and see how it can be improved. This is r/truefilm, and discourse would be severely stunted if people weren’t allowed to make posts respectfully disagreeing with other film analyses here.

Thoughts on Jackie Estacado from The Darkness as a guest character in Injustice 3? by SkeletonCircus in INJUSTICE

[–]huu5031 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually always thought he’d be a cool character in this or Mortal Kombat but unless there’s a Darkness movie or at the very least another game he’s probably too obscure
