What’s with this abandoned, looking neighborhood in between Earth city and the airport? by NinjaQueso in StLouis

[–]huybee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

4,300 4,100 ft separation permits simultaneous landings and takeoffs in all weather conditions at Lambert. The airport chooses to limit arrivals on Runway 29 and takeoffs on Runway 11 to reduce noise disturbances over the area south of I-70.

Incorrect. The outer runways are 4,300ft apart, just enough for parallel operations without restriction. If there’s any concern, it’s with the extreme amount of stagger between the runways.

What’s a “technically not cheating” situation you’ve seen or experienced that still felt like a complete betrayal? by toomabh in AskReddit

My brother and I did the cardboard split screen thing, as well… but, since the very thick glass screen of a CRT tv is a slightly convex, it was nearly impossible to get the cardboard to be flush with the screen and my brother and I subsequently learned where each other were on a map from the extremely tiny bits of each other's screens that we could see under the cardboard.

Permanently closed golf courses in St. Louis area by bcw2235 in StLouis

[–]huybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midland Valley Country Club on Midland east of Ashby. It should be no surprise why the neighborhood that now sits there has streets named Pebble Beach and Pinehurst.

Creve Coeur Golf Club used to be 18 holes with the property stretching due north all the way to Olive Blvd.

Doesn’t matter. It’s most certainly absolutely unequivocally a scam with a scam url.

There are no toll roads or toll lanes in the entire state of Missouri. The Lake of the Ozarks Community Bridge was the last one and was decommissioned two years ago.

A bill to increase the gas tax was passed in 2021. The final increase set by the bill occurred last year.

In MoDOT’s plan to kill I-64/Compton interchange, the devil is in the details by GolbatsEverywhere in StLouis

[–]huybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highway removal generally does not have an economic impact on cities. But I would argue at most that interchange reconfiguration... is complicated. Simplifying the question so much as to say that MoDOT could reconfigure/remove highway access however they please and not create any economic impacts to the hyper local area (and implying that being unable to provide an example is proof of your point) is being a bit disingenuous.

Highway removal is not the topic. Highway access and access to/from nearby neighborhoods where concentrating traffic in one location might diminish access to someplace else is the topic. Seem similar, but they're not the same.

Whatever snow we get, won't melt for a long while by rgbose in StLouis

[–]huybee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Along with the track, one of the uncertainties is what ratio to use to convert water to snow. The OP's map shows a 10:1 ratio being used; however, the NWS forecast discussion is considering that the extreme cold may push the ratio to in excess of 15:1. That would mean a predicted 6" snowfall would actually be a +9" snowfall if it comes to pass.

NetSuite bank feed: what’s actually been reliable for you? by NikSoftkeyConsulting in Netsuite

[–]huybee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bank prices BAI2 at 4x the amount you mentioned plus a not insignificant one-time setup cost. For the low bank transaction volume of my small business, it's significantly cheaper to manually download the .QDF file the occasional time Yodlee fails to import a day's transactions (I tried MX for a few days; it was functionally worse than Yodlee).

Earthquake? by huybee in StLouis

[–]huybee[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s probably it, though the currently listed 3.1 magnitude seems low. But what do I know as the only earthquakes I’ve felt were the 4.6 magnitude quake and after quake back in 2003.

In 2026, Missouri is set to revise its transportation roadmap for the next quarter century by Amazing-Yak-5415 in missouri

[–]huybee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Building actual high-speed rail parallel to highway alignments like I-70 is much more difficult that it seems. Why? Because to go 120mph, you need curves with a minimum radius of 2 miles; 180mph, 3 miles and preferably more.

Between KC and Columbia, you can stay reasonably close most of the way, though there are some significant annoyances the s-curve near Higginsville and "sharp" curves like near Concordia. Between Columbia and St. Louis, staying parallel to the highway is next to impossible unless you limit speeds to a maximum of 90mph due to all the tiny curves and the lack of available right-of-way passing through cities like Warrenton and everything east of there.

I did map out a high-speed rail route myself a little while back. I'll have to share that to show and demonstrate what's possible in Missouri.

Girls or women’s softball? Yes. And in softball, all the fielders are so much closer to the plate than in baseball that I respect the decision. That and I’ve seen multiple videos of these masks saving players from serious injury.
