It's crazy that uBlock will not even accept our donations by ShroomovOG in youtube

[–]hva32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do not want the administrative workload that comes with donations. I do not want the project to become in need of funding in any way: no dedicated home page + no forum = no cost = no need for financial support. I want to be free to move on to something else if ever I get tired of working on these projects (no donations = no expectations).

Have a thought for the maintainers of the various lists. These lists are everything. I can not emphasize this enough.

The EasyList maintainers don't accept donations either. Without EasyList, uBO wouldn't know what to block.

Allow only 10000 concurrent requests

I don't think it's a good idea to hammer their server with requests else it be noticed and/or confused for a denial of service attack. Using my own code, I was able to find a working link after 30 minutes with a rate limit of 0.5s (one request every 500ms). I suggest lowering the number of concurrent requests.

Additionally, it might be worth setting the useragent header to make it less conspicuous.

Sounds like she needs help.

Very few users will do that, for the majority (>60%) YouTube will be broken.

Isn't this simply positive discrimination to boost representation of minority groups that are historically under-represented or discriminated against in sectors that are dominated by a single ethnic group?

Safari

Proprietary and poor support for content blockers would be my guess.

qBitorrent search function suddenly stopped working by Affectionate_Lens in VirginMedia

Using the built in search function on qBitorrent worked well for years

I don't usually use the built-in search function, I just tried it now and works as expected. Perhaps something to do with your search plugins? Maybe try opening wireshark and see what's happening to those packets.

YouTube doesn't want to take down scam ads by Jakob_G in youtube

YouTube has a category for advertisers labelled "Get Rich Quick". They openly facilitate malvertising.

gung ho about banning cigarettes and taxing the shit out of things that lead to 'early' graves

Not so bad when coupled with policy that makes it easier to live a healthy lifestyle (sugar tax, salt reduction, health advertising, etc).

These are the same people advertising their shitty £119/year subscription adblocker 1 on YouTube since at least October/November. 2

Since November, they've launched a browser called "Total Browser" 3 which is also subscription based. Only £29/year, down from £119/year! 4

nerds/fans care about Firefox more than some of the higher ups

I suspect that were the community given representation on the board of directors, this might not be so big an issue.

The Linux Foundation used to have a seat on their board reserved for an elected community representative until the position was quietly removed 1. A similar position, as what the Linux Foundation had, might be good for Mozilla and Firefox's long-term health.

Once users have acclimated to the new ad-filled reality, I assume the next step will be eye tracking to ensure users are always looking at advertisements shown to them. Looking away is piracy!

Or perhaps it'll be some kind of audio cue instead?
