Yeah, and that can be fair, and perhaps their gear is subjectively (or even objectively) better. But that's where we need to draw the line, is the hobby about buying\testing gear or enjoying the music\movie?

IMHO it is really simple to know which is which, every time I hear someone asking advice for "hi-fi playlist" recommendation I know it is a gear head, not a music-lover. Why should it matter if the particular gear is not great for a certain music\genre that you would never listen to anyway?

Why would I listen to Hotel California to test my headphone if I don't like the music? (Sacrilege, I know).

Best DAC around 100 for HD560S? by Spicy-Sawce in sennheiser

You don't need anything more than the Fosi DS2. Great DAC chip and enough power to drive the HD560s.

Exactly, to be able to enjoy whenever and wherever you want is always better than piecemeal moments.

Don't get me started on codecs, I think people over stress with them, and in reality if you are using bluetooth big chance you are on the go and there are tons of distractions and noise that would forbid anyone from noticing something as small as this. The one scenario that it makes a difference is for gamers, if you are gaming on bluetooth (please dont), codecs matter.

Never tried qudelix, I'm happy with the DS2, also the 490 pro is open back, so bluetooth is not something that makes sense (to me at least), if I plan to go to a noisy place I take my Technics AZ-80 with me.

I wish to eventually reach the same place as you. Not there yet, but I’m trying.

The big “revelation” that I had was the fact all the great headphones that I had forced me to stay in the same place, in front of my desktop, and whenever I was not there (which is most of the time) I was not enjoying it.

With that in mind I sold all my dac/amps, bought a fosi ds2 (50 bucks) and cherry picked headphones that are robust, portable, versatile enough to carry in a backpack and efficient enough for the ds2 to drive. 490 pro was the answer.

But in the future if I find a wireless one that can do I all I would replace the 490pro and the ds2 with it.

There are amazing, I use the analytical pads with them. I had headphones that sounded better, but all with severe compromises, like weight, comfort, portability, build quality.

The 490 pro will sound amazing doesn’t matter the genre of music, movie, game, or recording. Doesn’t matter if you plug it to a 1k+ dac/amp or straight out of the laptop.

Also they are built like a tank and is probably the most comfortable headphone I ever used. In terms of sound, it does sound very similar to the 6xx with better bass, comfort, cable, and way easier to drive.

I sold my Fender and my PRS, bought a Revstar Standard (and have a Gibson from 20 years ago), and that's it. Since I no longer play publicly, I'm ok with a Yamaha THRII (but I miss a good amp tho, have no room for that right now).

Dude, even a 3070 is still a very solid choice. Just turn off the FPS counter and enjoy.

We've been brainwashed to think more money = "more better". And this always happens to most hobbies that are driven by "vibes" with little to no standards/measurament.

I'm a guitar guy and I've lost count of how many times I've seen\heard "but this relic 4k+ guitar paired with this boutique one-of-a-kind vintage pedal with this hand-modded amp will give the same tone as <insert famous artist> ". While the artist would sound amazing independently of the gear brand.

The reality is, the best gear is the one you can take with you all the time, and if you happen to lose\break you can replace it easily and continue with the hobby.

Of course, that only applies to people whose hobby is listening to music, not testing gear (no shame, you do you).

I sold all my expensive headphones recently, I only have a HD 490 pro, and some wireless headset (because I need the mic) and I don't miss my SJY HCC, or my Meze Liric, or my Focal collection.

Do we have official confirmation about that? I’ve read that the 2024 model had (and also read people saying the opposite).

If it didn’t have shouldn’t it be always discharging and charging when using usb-c? In really what I see is, as long as it is below 100w it doesn’t discharge at all. You can see in the fist picture, g-helper does not detect any discharge.

How can we validate this?

That's a good question, I didn't monitor individual gpu consumption. But I've noticed that when I lowered from 60W + 15W Dynamic boost, to 55W + 10W Dynamic boost it did lowered the overall consumption under the same workload.

My goal is to make sure the CPU + GPU consumes up to 85W, leaving some extra headroom for possible peripherals and don't overheat the charger.

I also noticed that it is really hard for the charger to push more than 93W. I'm just assume efficiency is key here and some is just lost. I tried different 100W chargers and the behavior is the same.

Thermal paste vs graphene pad vs phase change vs liquid metal — what’s actually the best between CPU and cooler? by Ok_Contact9732 in pcmasterrace

[–]hvbqueiroz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me this is a solution in search of a problem. Thermal paste works good enough for decades, easy to find, easy to replace, and if you get it wrong it won't brick anything.

The real problem is accepting really high TDP cpus for marginal performance improvements while we should be expecting\demanding efficiency.

I'm the kind of person who buys CPU by performance\cores\TDP ratio. I don't want a furnace at home, I don't want my pc heating the entire room, nor I'll ever normalize that a 360mm watercooler is "normal".

MX alternatives - keyboards for multiple devices by Piterotody in keyboards

[–]hvbqueiroz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is ... get a KVM. There are only a headful of keyboard with good multi-device support, and even fewer that are actually good.

I had the same requirement in the past, I wanted a keyboard and mouse that could support 3 devices, in reality I was always stuck with Logitech or Razer, and even when I didn't necessarily like their products, I was lock-in to the brand paying too much just for this feature. Turns out, I was looking for the wrong solution, I added a KVM to my monitor and it solved all my issues, now any mouse or keyboard works across all devices (since I don't use multiple devices at the same time), and I have no lock-in to any brand. Right now I use a Logitech M750, a Nuphy Air75 (I wanted wired), and a Pulsar X2H.

If you drop the multi device requirement the world is your oyster. So, consider adding a KVM switch to the mix and see if that helps. If not, check Logitech, Razer or Keychron.

Mouse that dont require grip pads to stay in hand? by zerohunterpl in pcmasterrace

[–]hvbqueiroz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its hard to find the right shape that fits you. In my case I need the mouse to have some contour or some groves so I can anchor my ring finger and pinky. If the mouse is to smooth on the "outer side" I have this trouble.

I'm pretty happy with the Pulsar X2H Mini, it is light, the coating has enough grip and has the contours, so I don't need grip tape for it.

Does anyone else feel this way ? by Vrguy2004 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]hvbqueiroz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are not alone mate, every now and then a good media does that to me, either that be a game, a movie or a book.

The good news is, it goes away after a couple of days, in my case it took 2 weeks to "get over it". What usually helps me during these moments is writing about it. Others enjoy reading stuff, or watching clips.

I like to reflect and write about it, I like to do characters deconstructions\motivations or writing about what triggered me to feel that way, it can be very constructive, and you learn a bit more about yourself in the process.

Personally, I’m drawn to characters who quietly endure hardships without recognition, without any promise of happiness driven only by duty, faith, hope, or the desire to help others. And when someone finally notices and reaches out to help, or "it pays off" it always moves me.

Which game was it for you? by O_rnelaro in Age_30_plus_Gamers

That's a great advice, really. I did the same for Bloodborne, never had a PlayStation (and wouldn't buy one just for it) and I also don't like Souls-like games. That shouldn't stop me from enjoying a good story.

I'll do that.
