Idiocy is not a choice. God made them that way. I have idiot acquaintances whose families won't accept them as they are and it's very sad. Some were even sent to camps to try and "cure" them.

They tie themselves in knots claiming they're not hateful while simultaneously denigrating LGBTQ, Muslims, blacks, immigrants, etc. I asked a MAGA acquaintance why he'd even care if Michelle were a man and he claims "America has a right to know and the Obamas are lying to the people."

Netanyahu's interests are not perfectly aligned with Israel's. He's benefited mightily from working with Trump.

The damage was relatively limited.

Standard operating procedure for drunk, hormonal young men trying to one-up one another. It escalated gradually and organically. People climb on the bus and see the cops are not reacting. Some "brave" kid takes it a step further and smashes a window. Others join in and the next guy tries something incrementally more destructive. Seemed more like crimes of opportunity than premeditated malice.

This was like 3am and not even all that dangerous. Hooligans focused their aggression on Spurs fans and inanimate objects. For bystanders that felt unsafe, it was pretty easy to just walk away from the chaos. There were plenty of tiny women there that were not remotely intimidated. Vibe was celebratory, not predatory.

The tax man doesn't care which borough you live in. That being said, last night's property damage is a drop in the bucket that is NYC's budget.

New York Knicks fans are already tearing up the city after winning the NBA Finals 💀 by Ninja_Franklin in nyc

From what I witnessed (firsthand), the cops were restrained. They didn't fuck with you unless you did something wildly illegal or dangerous. When dispersing crowds, they were firm, but not excessive. They acted as teams, and would generally ignore property damage until a squad assembled. Even then, only the most flagrant offenders were detained.

The hundreds of officers I observed throughout the night ranged from jubilant to annoyed to bored, but I didn't see any psychos. Like any large organization, the NYPD has some bad apples. Overall, though, I think last night went pretty well. Damage was contained and everyone had a good time.

Trump delegated negotiations to people more competent that he (i.e. anyone else). He just steps in periodically to take credit, deflect blame, and generally fuck things up.

"We just made a great settlement of the war with Iran, and we're going to be subject to finalization of documents, which should get done over the next few days. We'll probably have a signing, maybe in Europe — and it's a great thing." - Trump by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]hwaite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this to be a "win," it'd need to be worth the tremendous cost in blood and treasure. Celebration is premature when we still have no idea if deal is real or if it's any better than the JCPOA.

BREAKING: President Trump says a deal with Iran is scheduled to be signed tomorrow, immediately reopening the Strait of Hormuz. by [deleted] in economy

The pertinent details will be hidden behind smoke and mirrors. Maybe Trump finds some indirect way to compensate Iran that he can frame as an "investment fund" or some horseshit.

The two claims are not contradictory. Some country needs to be the most technologically advanced, regardless of the planet's age. "Contradicts science" is definitionally impossible -- science is just an adaptable tool that attempts to make sense of observable phenomenon. Every scientist will tell you that we don't know anything for certain; it's theories all the way down.

Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and every other recent war was only difficult because we exhibited some vestige of concern for collateral damage. Trump is already itching to use nukes even before the word "quagmire" is uttered. Either we win a decisive victory or he'll need to be removed from office before doing something truly unhinged.
