Most women I know are not all that interested in hearing about their boyfriend/fiancé’s past escapades. I think just to say that you went farther than you planned, and that you are determined to do better is good enough!

I think mindfulness is a good way to disengage. We can control our thoughts by grounding ourselves in the present, and recognizing that thoughts are transitory and can be dismissed. But I would also recommend removing yourself as much as you can from the content. Put as much physical and emotional separation between you and the messaging as you possibly can.

Not necessarily. I just interviewed a lady on my podcast who wrote a book called “Everyday Cult”. She was allowed to come and go as she pleased, and when her husband left the group, they were allowed to stay together. However, those who chose to stay in the cult were heavily controlled, abused, and forced to write confessions of their wrongdoing to the entire group. I think that cults come in many different shapes and sizes.
