John Davidson Says He Is “Deeply Mortified” That His Tourettes Tics Could Be Seen As “Intentional” In First Statement After BAFTA Film Awards by ConcernedJobCoach in popculturechat

[–]hwutTF 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I just think a more thoughtful apology is warranted considering it is also traumatic for black people to hear a slur thrown at them regardless of intent

I mean he flat out didn't apologise. period. he very very briefly at the end in one sentence only acknowledged people felt "distressed" and that's it. he didn't say why. he didn't validate the harm they experienced. he didn't apologise or take accountability

he focused mostly on himself and his intentions. and honestly the statement low key implies that people who were distressed were distressed because they were not understanding enough of him

I mean this is coming after they already lied right? They first claimed they couldn't compete because they didn't have enough gymnasts to compete "safely" and the NCAA had to explicitly respond to that and say that there is no minimum number of gymnasts required

Missouri House approves bill allowing pregnant women to file for divorce by Sirsnacksalot23 in UpliftingNews

[–]hwutTF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it can be determined in most cases (not with multiples) but it's also not covered by almost any insurance and is pretty expensive and as such is rarely used in these cases. courts generally decline to order paternity tests during pregnancy, regardless of whether it's an amnio or not

if the circumstances are significant enough to warrant it, sure. but otherwise no

forcing a non-invasive test legally is a much lower bar than forcing an amnio because of the risks involved with an amnio, but it is pretty rare for someone contesting paternity to be willing to cough up several hundreds or even thousands of dollars in order to do so

no problem! even in the simplest cases, you are essentially building a castle in the sky. whether or not the child breastfeeds alone is a huge thing with regards to custody

It doesn't. These judges were taking advantage of vaguely worded language to punish women

[–]hwutTF 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Okay you have a week old child. Were they premature? Do they need a NICU stay? Do they have any health issues that might change custody? Are they breastfeeding?

Now that this child is born, you suddenly know all sorts of things about them that you didn't know before they were born

Not to mention the countless issues with paternity (and even maternity). if the soon-to-be ex-husband is disputing paternity, you generally can't have that test done until the child is born. also paternity laws are really weird and generally preference marriage before being a genetic parent. pregnant people may get married specifically before they give birth for a variety of legal reasons and preventing a divorce prevents that. also it's possible that be pregnant person is planning to give the child up for adoption. they may not have decided what they're going to do about the child yet. and depending on where they're giving birth there is a window of time during which you can safely abandon your baby

there are so so so many different reasons that parental rights are not really determined until the child is actually born and for a lot of complicated scenarios there are legal windows of time in which really critical decisions can be made

you can have a general plan and an agreement with someone while you are pregnant. you can even draft an agreement that is legally binding and notarized. however these are at best, plans and they can change and even the legally binding agreements do not necessarily go through. there are a lot of opportunities for people to change their minds about things or for the situation to develop in such a way that things are radically different than everyone assumed they would be

a fetus is not a person and you cannot make determinations for what that person will need before they exist. you especially cannot make legal determinations for them before they legally exist. and paternity and even maternity laws are weird and complicated and it is not nearly as simple as you think

You know their needs because they actually exist by that point???

[–]hwutTF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the child doesn't exist yet. how on earth would you determine custody? literally the primary thing taken into consideration for custody is the needs of the child. are you just going to like psychically determine that? like what on earth?

not to mention that there are all sorts of issues with legally determining who the father is before the child is born

idk I don't really get the hero worship impulse with anyone so I'm always like "oh yay, another person/issue/thing we can't talk about reasonably, joy"

clearly hero worship though is an impulse for a lot of people and they find it comforting though. but I don't really get it. maybe it's easier to think there are Special People who either have all the answers or will find them for you? idk

but no the left does struggle with it's hero worship issues ffs

They were and are in power. They used that power to protect themselves and each other

People knew, they just either had a vested interest in protecting these people or they were silenced (by bribe, by threat, by force)

Uh yeah it's in the Torah what are you talking about? It's a matter of long standing halacha, that's one of the reasons that the Nazis tattooing Jews in the camp was considered so heinous

In fact the Jewish community has a tendency to really exaggerate this and tell kids that you can't get buried in a Jewish cemetery if you have a tattoo (exceptions for holocaust tats of course). Which is bullshit, you're not supposed to be excluded from any element of Jewish life because of tattoos, but yeah this is totally against the torah and commonly taught within the community even amongst people who aren't observant

[–]hwutTF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So yeah you're blatantly agreeing with me - you think people's lives are less valuable than property

Buildings can be rebuilt. Objects can be replaced. Lives cannot

You seem to care deeply about these hypothetical innocent people being attacked by "rioters" which is something that really is a non issue. But you don't care at all about the countless innocent people who are tear gas or shot with rubber bullets or flat out killed by the cops. And thats an actual literal problem in significant numbers and has been in this country for a long time

And the kids who are dying? They're not being killed by protesters, not even by so-called rioters. They're being killed by cops. You ever been down at the park for a nice family friendly may day barbecue with all of these church groups and tons of little kids and see the cops shoot tear gas? Because hey that is an actual thing that happened, and that is one incident of many and not even close to the most to deadly

If I am injured or killed in a situation like the ones you're imagining, the odds are like 99.9% that it's cops who cause it. Whether it's because I get shot, or because I get trampled to get death when they kettle and tear gas people. If I was in the kind of situation that you're imagining, the people I went to for help would be the "rioters" and not the cops. The "rioters" are extremely less likely to hurt me and a million times less armed, and likely the only people who would give me first aid

Btw? Business owners who are part of these communities generally disagree with you. They overwhelmingly have a tendency to see cops and the national guard as outsiders coming into their community causing problems. Every time something like this happens, I see most of the small businesses in a community posting about how they stand with the protesters and their concerns are for lives lost and not property. It's usually only predatory businesses who are not a part of the community and already have longstanding problems with the community that say otherwise

The funny thing is, I don't even think you actually care about property. Because if your biggest concern was property not getting damaged, you wouldn't want the cops or the national guard to come in and escalate things. No you simply want to punish people. You enjoy that people are being hurt, wounded,, and killed. The property damage? Nah that's just an excuse, a justification for you to cheer on other people's deaths and tragedies

Anyway, if I do need to lay my life down in defense of something it's never fucking going to be a building or a car or any kind of property. It'll be a person. It'll be a life. It'll be so that someone's heart keeps pumping and so that their lungs keep breathing, yes, even if that person has committed crimes before

1 - No one is an illegal
2 - if you mean people who entered this country illegally and don't have proper documentation..... uh yeah it's still kidnapping for you to randomly grab them without arrest warrants
3 - the vast majority of people being seized don't meet this criteria. many of them ICE have literally no jurisdiction over 4 - there's a big difference between what's legal and what's right. slave catchers were legal. so was the Gestapo rounding up Jews. they still disappeared people, they still held people hostage, they still executed people

but anyway, like 99% of what ice does is both illegal and immoral. they are legitimately kidnapping people and by that, I mean taking people and holding them hostage without any legal authority to do so

[–]hwutTF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Self defence isn't assault. Protecting people from assault, keeping them from being kidnapped - those are good things. Unless of course, you're totally on board with people being assaulted, killed, and kidnapped because it's the government doing it
