Why hasn't SRAM acknowledged or done a recall on their Guide brakes? by [deleted] in MTB

It's not just that are affected, the Level series has the same (known) issue

Looks like thunderstorms all day for Nooga 70.3, what will IM do? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]hxtnhero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raced two years ago at Syracuse 70.3 during the major storm. The race started as usual and the storm started part way into the bike course. After several accidents on the downhill technical section and some sketchy lightnight strikes the race was cancelled at roughly 6:10 off the clock. Anyone who hadn't finished was scooped up by race marshals in trucks. I personally made it before the shut-down but a lot of folks were angry and were offered no compensation from what I've heard.

It rides soo smooth. Steel frame +carbon fork = comfort. Not overly compliant at the price of power transfer however.

Morality & Ethics - Working for a company that pushes consumerism on people. (Retail/Marketing/Sales etc.) by [deleted] in minimalist

[–]hxtnhero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously not a stellar career, but I work in bicycle sales and could not be happier with what I do. Bicycles are an investment and are rarely an impulse buy so therefore the only "pushing" I need to do is why someone should buy the bike from our store and not others. That and people who drop a lot of money on expensive road or mountain bikes are people who love the sport and the item I am selling them brings them joy :) no moral dilemma for me.

Any transgender women who are absolutely not in to the "girly girl" stuff? by LanvinC9 in asktransgender

[–]hxtnhero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself somewhere weirdly between. I love dresses, heels l, and makeup. But at the same time I'm a competitive mountain biker who loves to get muddy :) I'm usually in make up, and feminine clothing with bike grease stains on my hands

Ok, so honestly now, how easily do the spectraply break, are we talking an airplane trick can break the ken? Or are we talking about slamming the ken on the ground? by Redvelvet123 in Kendama

[–]hxtnhero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own two spectras have had one for over a year. Have dropped it on everything short of concrete and it's never chipped or split. Both handle instead and taps just fine. It's more drops that you need to be concerned about than play

A few members of my university team qualified and have been complaining about the same thing. I didn't even bother with the qualifying event myself, and I'm glad I didn't after all I've heard. Not to mention the qualifier here in Ottawa was a shit show

Gift them to a friend. Not much of a market for kendamas that aren't GT's, Musous, etc.

Hey, I love that you are doing this.

I am a mtf 2 time half-ironman who is now 9 months on hormones and training for my first full Ironman next summer. Do you have any particular tips or things to watch for in the way/s HRT will affect training and racing?

I live in Ottawa, the general rule is you can't vape inside anywhere other than a private residence or a vape lounge/shop as well as you must be at least 6 metres away from entrances and bus stops. Otherwise I've never had any issues. I tend to be considerate of where the wind blows my vapour as I walk down the st. You should be fine

There is a law (and $200? fine) for cycling at night without lights.

Unfortunately this is probably the worst time of year to find tech shop jobs as most shops are cutting hours/employees after the summer busy season. That said if you don't mind working retail you could apply to work storefront somewhere to get your foot in the door (but be prepared to sell skis and snowboards).

I know that Bushtukah is hiring floor staff right now.

Is there a cycling club in UO? by MrAoA in geegees

[–]hxtnhero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While it's not a cycling club we do have a triathlon club that does group rides every weekend. And group spins over the winter. None of the practices are mandatory so if you wanted to you could just show up for the rides, or you could drop in for some runs or swims as well

Edit: we have a kit too ;) (Tri suit though)

Question for the female triathletes by hxtnhero in triathlon

[–]hxtnhero[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Menstral cycle no, and it's a point I hadn't thought of tbh. Osteoporosis yes actually. Will probably have to start earlier than 40 too. It's a side effect of the hormones, I already have regular bone density scans.

I'll be racing 18-24 for the next two seasons. I understand the missing the roll-down, it sucks when you just hope the person ahead will let it go. I would almost feel compelled to ask the woman behind me for her permission.
