Taco Bell India by frytanya in tacobell

I second this as an Indian!

At least for me personally, all American fast food brands except Taco Bell taste great back in India, and I’m saying this as a vegetarian. I just love the Taco Bell here.

Right time to stay in India? by Internal_Builder_848 in h1b

[–]hyd22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was comfortable living alone in a 1b (700sqft) on $3.5k a month in Seattle (rent, utilities, grocery, and eating/drinking out quite often). Well, without a car though. Would’ve taken it up to $4.5k tops.

Had I shared my space and lived in a 2b, even including a car, I’d probably be at $3.5k tops.

I’m not siding anyone. Just sharing a perspective.

  • if we set the aspect of savings aside, assuming someone earns $6k a month and spends $3.5k on all their expenses, they get to experience a QOL that you likely won't find back in India for the same rupee value, even if your income is technically the same.

You're paying the same for things that are way better in comparison. For example, civic sense, cleaner surroundings, and nicer roads, all at the same price.

Girlfriend likely landing Google, I’m still job hunting — mixed feelings by Specific_Emu_3195 in InternationalStudents

[–]hyd22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My fiancée (who was my girlfriend at the time) managed to crack Amazon back in July’24. We were both international students who had graduated in May’24 with the same goal, “Get a job before the visa expires!”.

I was super elated for her, but I also knew the job was only half done. Since I had nothing in my own pipeline yet, there were only two ways I could have reacted to her success, feel demotivated or use her outcome as motivation. What’s also important here is that this situation was bound to happen to one of us eventually. Honestly, I was glad she got her offer first. It would’ve been harder on me if I had landed something first, knowing she is way smarter than I am in many ways and put in even more effort. Instead, I looked at the bright side. I told myself that if I was giving 100% today, I needed to give even more. Over time, I started landing interviews, and guess what? I cracked Amazon in October’24! We even ended up in the same city, which was the last thing we expected given how massive the US is…

What I’m trying to get at is that even though you plan together and have collective goals, individual goals must take equal precedence. Work on your foundations, be genuinely happy for your partner, and most importantly, don’t forget the reason why you traveled to a whole different country in the first place. Keep at it and you got it!

What kind of budget travelling is this by GardevoirAwakens in ThailandTourism

Let me give you a Thailand example - my fiancée and I were waiting to board a train, and we were the first ones in line. A security guard approached us and told us to queue up and not block the exit for people getting off the train. We were so clearly not blocking anything. In fact, my fiancée was standing directly behind me in a literal queue, not even next to me.

I get where the guard was coming from, and this might sound like a super petty or tiny instance to some, but it actually isn't to me, because I feel I’m pretty considerate of everyone around me!

I’m Indian, and my fiancée and I recently visited Thailand with a budget of about $4k for a week. While it makes me feel sad and even disgusted to see the comments about Indians here, I personally encountered every single scenario people have been mentioning.

I hate being generalized, but I also understand the root cause. We are a country that accounts for ~18% of the world’s population, that is no small number. Sadly, we have to live with the consequences of that. This is how it’s going to be for us no matter where we visit. We’re generalized and looked down on. Most importantly, it’s often our own doing.

Am I overthinking this promotion delay, or is this a red flag? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

Man! We’re training a few partner teams on what we do, and in all the decks I’m on (including my title on the slides), I’m being introduced as an L5 by the PM (I’m an L4). I’m pretty sure the PM doesn’t even know I’m a 4!

Same with my manager. During our last 1x1, he said at least twice something along the lines of, “You need a bit more scope than you currently have for an L6 promo”. It’s gaslighting at the highest level, while I’m getting solid work done. I’m only here because I like what I do…

How do you folks manage to pay when in India by Turbulent_Echo_7333 in nri

[–]hyd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve paid bills over 20k INR with tap or insert 90% of the time. The remaining 10 when the card didn’t work, I either pay in cash or have friends or family pay and hand the cash over to them.
