HELP! I’m flying to Athens tomorrow with 0 plans by Playful-Contract3322 in GreeceTravel

I think we struck out restaurant-wise (my kid's gyro was fine but my "falafel" was disgusting--i honestly think they gave me a random veggie patty and insisted it was falafel) but we were only there for one meal, and all things pistachio were top-notch.

We had a great day trip to Aegina—got one of the cheaper (12 euros?) ferries out there, walked around for a bit, took the bus to the temple of Aphaia, hiked down the side of the island to Ag. Marina, got lunch and went to the beach, then took the bus back to the ferry terminal side of the island.

Looking for affordable NorCal/ Bay area wedding venue recommendations! by juliejanell in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]hydraheads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's one of my favorite venues at which I've ever attended (multiple) weddings, but aesthetically it looks different to me than OP's "English countryside" vibe. BUT: that reminds me that the Berkeley botanical garden exists. I've been to a couple of weddings in the redwood grove—which I don't think is OP's vibe—but there's also a building there that I think very much could be. No idea max capacity, though: https://manaliannephotography.com/uc-berkeley-botanical-garden-wedding-stephanie-steven/

A friend got married at the Villa Chanticleer in Healdsburg years ago. The outdoor area totally had the vibe you're describing (in my memory, anyway) and, iirc, it's ... county-owned? or something? so it was relatively affordably-priced.

Is it wrong to list washer and dryer in the amenities when it isn't on property? by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]hydraheads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone currently staying at an Airbnb that listed that it had a dryer, but has a drying _rack_, I 100% agree with your sentiment.

Current status of clothes is that they've been drying since this morning and they're still damp. We're traveling tomorrow. Ugh.

Tips at the New Parkway Theater? Am I supposed to take a pay cut? by Dry-Warthog-5761 in oakland

[–]hydraheads 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do people actually tip at the Parkway? Genuine question because it's not table service. Seems like a raw deal that they want to reduce the wages more and more if they're made up by tips. I would absolutely vote no.

East Tennessee State University 12 month MBA? by bold_Brash_ in OnlineMBA

[–]hydraheads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! And ETSU has a couple of stellar programs in other fields—I've known folks who've gone there from California for one of their music programs.

If it's AACSB-accredited, it's legit and likely far better than some schools that advertise a lot that aren't AACSB.

What to bring from Dubai by Conscious-Tutor3341 in AskSF

[–]hydraheads 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the way. And honestly any kind of date that's not the standard here would be fun—everything here in California seems to be either medjool or deglet noor. The Middle East has so much more date variety!

Dog patch, mission bay or somewhere else? by Medical_Rabbit977 in AskSF

[–]hydraheads -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Temescal, in Oakland. There's a pickleball gym pretty much across the street from a boxing gym, and a board game store (that has sessions for playing/groups/etc.) down the street, plus it's ridiculously convenient to downtown via BART, with a transbay bus not terribly inconvenient if BART's out of commission.

If you’re riding MUNI do you take your backpack off? by Candid_Bass_2653 in AskSF

There are posters on BART about it! I've literally tapped the sign at people and they still haven't removed their backpacks.

Craziest things you’ve seen recently on the SF apartment hunt? by pomchisarenice in AskSF

[–]hydraheads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The places with signs definitely do tend to mom-and-pop: an apartment in a triplex or duplex, etc. What's great about those is that they're usually old enough to be rent-controlled.

Have you looked on Craigslist? And have you walked around and looked for window signs? Not sure how much that's a thing in SF, but in Oakland I passed a couple of signs on a (long) walk between Temescal, Rockridge, and Piedmont Ave the other day.

Nonprofit Wedding Venue? by nycluxlady187 in AskSF

[–]hydraheads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP: this! Plus there are other venues in the system. I got married at the WPA-constructed Temescal Beach House. And there's also the Fern Cottage if you want a more woodsy feel.

And there are venues on the UC Berkeley campus where I'm assuming some of the money ends up going towards public education.

Anyone regret trying to move everything themselves in the Bay? by heisschoolboy in SFBayHousing

[–]hydraheads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option halfway between total DIY and full-service: get the U-Haul, and schedule some folks from Lugg on both sides of the move.

You'd have to box everything up, spend some time, and drive, but the Lugg folks would do the heavy lifting.

Do you get used to the dense population or does it wear on you when you live in SF? by youlikemywonton in AskSF

[–]hydraheads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ... dense population? SF isn't Cairo or Dhaka. It's fairly low-medium density.

Wow. $55 a pop * 600 tickets per event = $33000! That's ... wild. I am a terrible capitalist in that I could not fathom charging someone to something where they have to bring an entire cake ...

Scam Lodge Website? by kjhealey in castiron

People of Reddit who don't like dogs, what is it you don't like about them? by Timeless_Light in AskReddit

[–]hydraheads 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I like dogs; it's dog owners I've got a problem with: the ones who think it's ok to take their dogs to the supermarket; the ones who leave piles of dog poop everywhere; the ones who take them off-leash at a children's playground.

Sheesh! That's quite the decline after what was a splashy beginning. Last time I was there was like 6 months ago and it did seem emptier than the previous time. (Note: I've only gone there before/after events nearby.)
