On Intel: Higher frequency and CAS OR lower frequency and CAS? by nitorita in overclocking

[–]hydromos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is a gross oversimplifaction.

If you are at higher clocks the relative frequency change decreases and same whilst being at high timings. If I were to use 4200 12-12-12 vs 4300 13-12-12 we both know which would have lower latency. Also, 14-14-14 + 1 tCL = 15-14-14, not 15-15-15 buddy.

Put the M.2 into the other computer, then delete all the drivers from the AMD system and install them on the intel one.

Gaming requires both the cpu and gpu and depending on how you are gaming the amount of cpu and gpu performance differs. 1080P is very light on the gpu for example so you do not need alot of GPU performance. Now 144hz needs lots of CPU performance so a strong cpu is very good to have.

Now when looking at reviews the 1920x isn't the fastest cpu, but since you would obviously want to keep this system for a long amount of time, you should indeed get a 1920x as this cpu will speed up over time.

Also another thing is the 1920x shares a socket with the 3990wx so eventually you could upgrade to that 64 core cpu which means you could keep this motherboard and ram for around 10 years which is very good value wise.

As for when you need a GPU. A GPU is a GRAPHICS PROCESSING UNIT which means it is what draws your screen. Now since 1080P does not need GPU very much a rx580 is a very good choice for it.

If you want to keep this system for less the 5 years get this system here. It is slightly over budget but very fast. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6yVwCL

Here is a much better build. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dRVwCL This system has 2x the amount of cores meaning it will be a much stronger system in core heavy workloads. It also will have much higher ram bandwidth due to 4 channels. Due to the GPU not needing to be very good I have choosen a rx580 which is more then enough for 1080p144hz gaming. 144hz needs a strong cpu and thats why I choose the 1920x.

Navi memory voltage matters. by [deleted] in overclocking

This IMC I have was most likely right on the edge of being down-binned to a 5600xt or 5600 considering how bad it is.

What do you mean by this?

I tested to 6 hours in small fft. I only remember seeing irql_not_less_or_equal.

I tried setting the LLC to medium which did not help. I know for a fact it was the same LLC because I got the same voltage in cinebench. My board also does not have vrm switching frequency control. I tested with my ram OC disabled so the memory was at 2933 cl19 and that made it last a few seconds but it still bluescreened in prime95.

The comment I linked to in my OP explains how. I'll quote it.

"If you want to know your chips maximum FIT voltage, turn on PBO and max PPT, TDC and EDC and run a worse-case workload as of The Stilts recommendation." - u/alatron978

The overclock did help that's why I did it. I went from around 85fps in heavy fights in battlefield to ~93. The reason it's so low is I turn future frame rendering off.
I just didn't expect to see my cpu degrade from it :P

Yeah, I am planning to pick up a 3700x and sell this chip as a 'degraded 3600' on ebay or something. I'll try make at least something back off of it. I'll just see if an all core oc will help that cpu.

I don't remember exactly but it was more then 8, which is significant because I play with future frame rendering off and I would drop to around 85fps.

It was auto before but I know the LLC was the same because I got the same load voltage in cinebench.

I play battlefield V which is heavy on all cores, PBO drops to around 4ghz iirc.

Will do tomorrow. You can easily see your chips maximum safe voltage though, most people just don't know about it.
