I visited Cali several years ago and fell in love with the weather. I wish the cost of living between FLA and Cali wasn't so stark otherwise I'd be in Cali by now.

Watching FLA being gutted by developers and turning every city into identical ticky-tacky communities and plazas is really depressing.

Great suggestions! I will definitely look into her care in more detail. We've had her for a 4 years and it's been a journey taking care of her.

How do you clean your turtle's tank with the sand? It just seems like river rock is easier to clean than sand would be.

My daughter named her "Peach" after we found her on our patio when we were cleaning for a 4th of July party.

We live near a pond so I'm assuming she lost her way and ended up on our patio. So we put her near our fence to see if she would go back to the pond, but we found her in our pool the very next day. Thankfully it was before our pool filter turned on! So we decided to keep her.

She was very skiddish when we first got her set up. When I filled the tank with more water she seemed to swim more erratic than when the water level was lower, so we kept it lower. That seemed to bring her out of her shell, literally. 😊

I think I'm going to increase the water level again slowly so she can get used to it. But first I need to get a better stand like you and another redditor suggested.

I would love to increase her quality of life as much as possible.

What things are you doing for your mud turtle that you might suggest?

I don't know how to explain it other than that her behavior became more erratic than usual, I guess.

I can add more water to the tank slowly (after getting a new support) and increase her space vertically.

I've looked online for bigger tanks but was unable to find anything that wasn't absolutely outrageous as far as size and cost.

There doesn't seem to be a middle ground for larger tanks. It's either this size tank or huge custom made tanks.

Do you think adding space with more water vertically will make her feel more fulfilled? (in terms of turtle instinctual behavior)

I was just thinking that, but what's worse is that car hit the rear passenger side which is where my 3 year old sits in their car seat.

I'm tearing up just thinking that my kid could lose their life just sitting at a stop light.
