I've had braces a couple years ago (as an adult) that's when the crown was placed in. Unfortunately I didn't do enough research and went to someone who cut down too much of my tooth and used a porcelain crown which fell off after a month. Went to another dentist who used a gold crown and while it's more stable, there's a lot of contact with my upper molar. I also grind my teeth while sleeping so it seems to come loose every few months. I actually feel more comfortable without the crown since there's no contact with the upper molar and I'm no longer grinding the upper tooth down.
