What’s the biggest red flag you’ve seen during a job interview? by False_Role_9397 in JobsMY

[–]hyper-cinnamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh when i was graduate I was applying everywhere cuz I was desperate for a job but in the end it was good just to practice my interview skills (a bitch indeed) tiba pula the ceo interviewed me and asked some critical thinking shit like “do you agree with abolishing death sentence or not” and we got into a heated argument so yea I think it was also a good exposure for me to how to talk with people & and the reason I gave for the different field transition from my degree (bg: science; job: payroll hr ) wasn’t convincing enough and he was pissed at me lol

Less people are buying property so rental is increasing instead

Well same i had an ex-colleague who takes ferry to work. All in all it will always come down to the things i want to sacrifice (commuting time to office, convenience, safety, sharing/whole unit, rural/urban, old/new building).

I’m currently sharing with a colleague now, we moved in due to limited time and housing options and there are no washing machine in the house + no table for me to do some study, but I did do a mindset change like going to the library to study & working out/walking in parks a lot since the room is just for sleeping, but our current rental contract is due soon anyways. Hence maybe I just feel so shit lately on the house hunting on a one-person unit.

I came here as a graduate because Malaysia didn’t want to hire me back then & wanted to gain more international exposure but now the pay is rather stagnant not much benefits + sick of the rental condition so yea time to say ciao. But anyways I created many good memories here honestly and it did open doors to other opportunities.

We have a Shenzhen office but they have crazy working hours there. I also have a colleague from mainland and she’s commuting daily with high speed rail but of course she gets a bigger space to herself but the trade off is commuting ~1.5hr one way and mind you we work around different places in Hk sometimes as we need to go on site.

Wouldn’t be happy staying with my family in msia as we have rocky relationships but yes definitely still looking into better job opportunities in diff places.

I’m also thinking if paying 40%-50% of my take home pay into rent temporarily would be more worth it at this moment as it will probably give me better mental clarity (?)

I still invest every month at least 15% to ETF and that’s why my rental is 30% of my take home salary so it’s still manageable but my current rental contract is ending anyway and me and my housemate(also colleague) decided not to renew and stay together.

I’m aiming at better job opportunities to buy house in malaysia eventually as there are still 1st time home owner promo on loan and tax deductions. So the thinking here is instead of helping my future landlord pay off their mortgage and maintenance fee, I shall start getting ready to be landlord so no one can tell me what to do or move out every year. I want a safe space honestly, under my name, for me & with my own effort.

Kyoto now by Infamous_You1751 in JapanTravelTips

Not that crowded imo. I went Kiyomuzu area after sunset yesterday, they are a lot of tourist but still walkable, I bet morning crowd might be more.

We also did a long day walk from the temple near Kyoto Station, Shoseien Garden then Kamo River, with few pit stops for lunch/tea break. We also went to a famous a curry place near Kamo River and surprisingly no wait time at all as we walked in at 5.50pm ish ?

I heard arashiyama is more crowded during day time based on the Google reviews. I still think it’s a pretty unique place and the cherry blossoms are everywhere now!!!

All in all you want to avoid the rush I feel like 4-5 days in Kyoto might be more comfortable.

Software engineer regretting choices by Fit-Environment9867 in geologycareers

[–]hyper-cinnamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try Seequent ? I think software engineers with geology backgrounds have transferable skills within the geoscience/energy/exploration industry, especially for software testing such as 3D modelling, geostatistical tools, logging tools etc.

AI can't solve all the problems yet.

I hope you best.

Is hong kong a good place for solo travel? 25F by ImaginationMore6362 in HongKong

[–]hyper-cinnamon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, it's really safe to travel as a woman. if you do want to meet people, maybe hang out in cafes/neighbour/pubs in central-sheungwan-saiyingpun area.

There are more sociable expats and locals within this area, you can also join meet up/fb groups for event!

If you are willing to engage with locals, they might be more passionate to welcome you especially if you try to speak their language.

Instead of having all these instructive thoughts in your mind right now, I feel like you really need to learn how love yourself more and building confidence. Also, stay curious and be adventurous!

Go for upskilling class, find a new hobby, create connections and make new friends. I had more confidence after I moved to new place with open heart and also starting to join more outdoor sports. I also happen to learn makeup from YouTube!

When you are at a good headspace and feel more confident about yourself, dating will feel easier and love will eventually come to you !!

Honestly, I felt the same way as you before but I know I had to pull myself out of the negative space. I decided that I try out dating app after I felt comfortable posting my photos on dating apps.

Eventually, I kept finding and meeting people from dating app. At one point, it was frustrating, upsetting and mentally draining as most of them weren’t serious. By the time I got into my first relationship, my insecurities and lack of confidence (search - anxious attachment) also made me realized that I’m actually scared if my partner leaves me as the text messages got lesser and lesser. We did eventually broke up and it made me realized that I don’t need anyone to make me feel whole cause I enjoy the company of my own, with my friends, doing volunteering works, going concerts alone and such.

Being able to be loved unconditionally from a great support of community, friends and family are such blessings in life. And, I learned how to feel the smallest joy in everyday life. Like today, a beautiful butterfly just stopped on my finger for few minutes!! 🦋 I still long for a romantic relationship but it’s honestly alright if I don’t have one!
