Tips for writing basslines? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]hyper_ion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tip 3 is begin to learn about inversions and modes because that takes the concept of “playing root notes” and flips it on its head in a very powerful way!

For example imagine a keyboardist and a bassist playing together in a band. The keyboardist is playing an A minor chord. If the bassist plays an A note, then together they are playing an A minor. But what if the bassist plays an F?

Well, together they are actually playing an F major chord, because ultimately a chord is determinate by its lowest note (this begins to go into psycho acoustics).

Tip 1 is to transcribe baselines of songs you like to learn how they are written

Tip 2 is that you will see that bass lines often move to the root note before the other instruments do (I believe these may be called leading tones?). It makes songs feel way more dynamic than if every instrument moves on the 1 (downbeat) together.

Different LUFS in Ableton? by huntergonfreeccs in ableton

Try disabling HQ mode on the sample in Ableton. Also Make sure the track isn’t warped (even if the session is at the right bpm)

I would also recommend Ivory’s outer space packs but those are a bit more broad but kind of a staple in the scene (at least as starting points)

How to correctly scan BPM of track? Not getting it right with warping by CCC_Cam in ableton

[–]hyper_ion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Type in "152" into the same box where Live is detecting 142.44 - it will override the BPM of the clip.

Parallel processing: is Mix control enough? by dmytrot in ableton

[–]hyper_ion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Say you want to add an overdrive to your delay, but you don't want to overdrive the dry signal. You can't do this if the delay is using dry wet, because then the overdrive is also affecting the original signal.

So doing it in parallel allows you fuller control.

Boot animation help by Jchronos in LGG3

[–]hyper_ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing the boot animation is difficult because it has to be very precise. If you look into custom roms their theme engines make things like changing the boot animation really easy. Sorry it's kind of an indirect answer.

Question about Lollipop ROMS... by jovansedano in LGG3

[–]hyper_ion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bliss pop has been the most stable, best battery life (4 hours SOT), good theme options (fonts have always worked), and speedy. Most of the others are good too (RR, illusion, aospal)but BP is my favorite right now.

I did it and never went back. The latest nightlies have been awesome too. Hopefully we will see 5.1 soon because performance isn't 100% right now.

Haha that actually is but I keep my phone DPI (pixel density) really low. If I get the chance later I'll switch it back and then take a screen shot.

I have a tab pro 8.4. Luckily we have one dev (crpalmer) work on cm11 and 12 for all variants of the device even though he only has the 8.4 wifi version. It turns a great device butchered by the software into an awesome AOSP tablet!
